(Anonymous) 2019-02-14 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)OP makes it sound like they think they're the only person who both practices BDSM in RL and also reads/writes fiction and therefore, they're the consummate judge of accuracy.
Newsflash: They're not.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-13 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)Also seconding the 'not reading the right fics', but then, I don't know OP's primary fandoms, so there might not be good stuff for the characters they care about.
As a kinkster and fic reader/writer, like... some people get it right for sure, but then, no one's experiences with kink are universal, so there's also a lot of room for 'well that's not how I feel about X'. (and, granted, like... in fic subspace is a lot easier to attain than in rl, because fantasy)

(Anonymous) 2019-02-14 02:23 am (UTC)(link)I like to focus on the internal feelings, like... that's something I think people who think it's hot in fiction but who haven't done it might not have a grasp of, what goes through your head and your heart in scene.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-14 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)"You can clearly tell this person has no experience" Yeah, well, that professional author who is married and has biological children also writes absolutely terrible sex scenes. And that person who just revealed they're an ace virgin blew me away with their sex scene.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-14 03:30 am (UTC)(link)Which is fine, because it's id-tickling fiction, and not a primer on BDSM - its job is to entertain the reader, not to provide factual information, and no one should be getting kink tips from fanfic. But it can occasionally catapult you right out of the story when you come across something that really trips your 'that doesn't work that way' button, same as with any other subject a reader's familiar with and the author isn't.
