Let's pull a good old Gundam Seed Destiny secret out:

I know everyone and their hamsters shipped Athrun and Cagalli and was all mad about what Destiny did to them and while I agree that Destiny was obviously worse than Seed, that was the one thing that didn't bother me at all. The only people I ever shipped Athrun with are Kira and Meyrin.
(Regardless of the shipping drama, I'm disgusted by how fandom treated Meyrin.)

I ship Athrun/Cagalli, but I'm fine with what Destiny did with their relationship. Other aspects of their characters and everyone else's... not so much... but if we're strictly talking couple status, it was fine. Most couples don't stay together forever, and their relationship always seemed like it was right for the time that it happened but not meant to last. And while I couldn't get into Athrun/Meyrin as a ship, I liked Meyrin as a character. I wasn't in the fandom myself, but I heard about the hate and that sucks.

Bonus secret: I did hate Lunamaria though. I wouldn't have aired my hate to the fandom, but goddamn was she an entitled brat. Though I guess that makes her perfect for Shinn. (I liked Shinn, but that's because the story acknowledged that he was a brat but it didn't seem to be aware that Luna was one as well.)

That's fair!
I wasn't the biggest fan of Lunamaria either and thought her and Shinn were an awful couple.
