What high school stereotype did you fit?

(Anonymous) 2019-02-17 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
If you say nerd, you gotta elaborate.

Anime nerd, with hints of wolfaboo. Never wore the Naruto headband though.

I don't have to elaborate on anything I don't want to

Don't know if this is a stereotype, but it's definitely A Thing: one of those mousey girls with brown hair always worn in a low ponytail, with glasses and a big, heavy backpack.

I was painfully average.

No one at my school actually fit the stereotypes, interestingly. Plenty of the 4.0 kids were also the popular kids. We had cheerleaders who were on the heavyset side. There were a few stereotypically nerdy kids and stereotypical "I hate everyone and everything (but am actually secretly lonely)" kids, but that was it.

I was nerdy, but not particularly studious or brainy. I was a bit emo, but not a goth.

I was the brainy nerd whose homework everyone stole. And then I got shut into a locker or dropped into a trash can.

:(

This is probably why I stopped doing homework and went "Fuck it! I'm just gonna do tests and in-class assignments!" GPA suffered, but stopped getting shut in lockers!

:(

I was a loner, mostly. Like a Romy White without a Michele Weinberger. Or vice versa.

I was awarded Fine Arts Student of the Year my senior year though because I was active in theatre, marching band (I did color guard,) and choir.

I guess I fit the theatre geek stereotype pretty well too.

I dunno. I was definitely a 'nerd' in the sense that I was smart, got great grades, and read a lot, but... I had a good core group of friends, all the teachers except one loved me, didn't have any enemies, was friends with pretty much everyone outside of my 'group', was one of the only two girls in shop class...

Quiet, shy, smart girl.

the smart kid

i had hearing problems from birth, which meant that my mum arranged for me to be stuck in the front row of all the classes so i could hear the teachers

which immediately made me a target (literally) for the cool kids at the back to bully (i was a late developer physically too, so there was also that); so i got stuck throwing myself into my schoolwork to hide from it all, which meant i only ever had about three proper friends

lather rinse repeat through middle school and high school and a-levels, and that more or less continues to run right through to the present day

outcast, because my grades weren't good enough for me to be a nerd

I was assumed to be a goth both by teachers and students, including the actual goth students. (I wasn't, I just had a long phase where I was fascinated by (the fictional depictions of) thieves/cat burglars and that's why I wore black a lot.)
I very much was a nerd deep into reading fantasy, being interested in mythology and also a big musical nerd.

Twink, creepy milsurp loner kid, stoner/druggie, eventually late-90s / early-00s gangbanger (I had the saggy pants and chains, air force ones, you name it.)

I didn't. I've never seen a major character in media who was even close to what I was like, nor even a minor character. I was smart but got bad grades, I didn't have a single friend but wasn't bullied, my parents weren't divorced, I didn't have some super amazing talent waiting to be discovered. I had poor social skills, I self harmed a good ten years before that was a known thing, I sat locked away in my bedroom after school and spent my time in school daydreaming about being locked away in my room at home. I know now that it was due to trauma from CSA that lasted until I was 15 and from being severely bullied in elementary school. But even when there are characters kinda like that in media, they always have a few close friends and some school activities they participate in and that just wasn't me at all.

Quiet, messed-up Tolkien nerd who thought she had friends, but that turned out not to be the case.

I was the scary one! My friends and I were the punks of our school I guess. We had some piercings and most of us didn't have good home lives so we'd get up to some silly shit and hang out in parks all night. In a very white, middle class, catholic town and school, we were the kids old ladies crossed the street to avoid. If there had been a murder we probably would have been high on the suspect list because satan worship. You know. Those people.

And I was the scariest one for reasons that are still unclear to me. I guess I had the most fucked up home life? Maybe the worst resting bitch face? I do not know. The rumours were wild. My friends would always tell me the best ones and then they'd joke loudly about how I was selling drugs in the toilet or whatever.

Really my friends were just nerdy weirdos who liked some cool music and I don't talk much to people I don't know so I guess they decided for themselves what I was like.

Choir geek who was everyone's honorary Big Sister even if they were older than me, with shades of weeaboo and goth. I pretty much got along with everyone, but I guess I'd say I spent the most time with the other lowkey weebs.

I don't really know how others saw me, to be honest.

People probably classified the clique I was in as a bit lame. We were mostly girls, though a couple of geek guys joined our clique partway through high school. I guess we were defined by being kind of "boring" and straight-laced - but not in a judgey Christian way or anything. We just did okay in school and didn't drink or do drugs or go to parties or have sex or even really date.

I was kind of the unofficial "leader" of our group. I felt like an ugly loser and didn't think of myself as a commanding leader-type personality, but in hindsight, I think I was. I was very direct, not at all manipulative, and never a jerk on purpose, but I tended to take for granted that people would follow me; at the time I didn't see it for the kind of loyalty it really was.

Typical overachiever, except I wasn't very perky about it.

Valedictorian, NHS, Academic Decathlon & Knowledge Bowls, Marching band, Senior class vice-president, took part in the school play, helped run the concession stand, worked on the floats for parade, helped decorate for prom. I had a few close friends and was casual friends with a bunch of different groups and the only people that ever had any problems with me were the ones that had a problem with just about everybody, though mostly they just ignored me.
