I think it's pretty parallell to people who always prefer the book (or if we're talking anime, always prefer the manga). It's a completely legit stand to take, but there is a good number of them who sincerely seem to think that the only reason people prefer the film/the anime is because they're either bad fans who don't care to do the proper research, or too lazy to read.

It's completely legit to lose one's suspension of disbelief over historical inaccuracy. It's... somewhat less okay to insist that something is BAD because of historical inaccuraies, because it's suggesting that the people who like it are too stupid to know better.
