I like slash because there's lots of dicks in it.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-18 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Okay and there’s nothing wrong with that/doesn’t disprove my point? OP’s statement amounts to “hurr durr women like slash because they feel ~threatened~ by fictional wimmenz so they simply remove them from the equation!!”

DA
well, you can't deny it's one of the reasons.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-18 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
an incredibly small minority that’s still living in the early days of fandom maybe but the reality of slash fandom boils down to:

male media creator: dominate the market and have mass appeal
male media creators: avoid writing women therefore 95% of the cast is men
male media creators: avoid writing women therefore 95% of meaningful character interaction is between men
male media creators: avoid writing women therefore most canon m/f is shallow and meaningless
male media creators: when they write women they’re flat and unrealistic or pidgeonholed and hard to relate to
fandom: is dominated by slash as result
male media creators and het stans: *surprised_pikachu.jpg* why don’t they care about personality-less generic dead wife number 376???? INTERNALIZED MISOGYNY!!!

(Anonymous) 2019-02-18 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Also, a lot of women are attracted to men so obviously they'd like two of them going at it much like straight dudes fetishize lesbians. There's also the appeal of seeing your favorite male character get plowed by cock. Especially if you're a femdom.

Uh, unless you're trapped in the year 2005, then yeah, you can deny it. Of all the armchair psychology reasons for the popularity of slash among women, this is one of the most bullshit I've seen yet.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-18 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
tbh anything beyond "what's better than one dude? two" is reaching

nobody navel gazes this hard over why guys like lesbian porn

(Anonymous) 2019-02-18 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
because they’re normalized and it’s treated like it’s okay for dudes to like lesbian porn. meanwhile if a women likes slash (not even porn. Just slash) she gets accused of the internalized misogyny and called a deviant fetishizing homophobe because women exploring their sexuality is nasty. Maybe if people didn’t treat women so weird for exploring their sexuality we wouldn’t have to rationalize and navel gaze but that’s not what fandom does. Instead it becomes “you’re a nasty fujoshi who hates women” while missing the fact that fandom inadvertently creates these scenarios where slash is more appealing. Not two dicks good, vagina bad.

The most irritating rationale I've seen for why slash is popular is because "women project onto the uke so they can give into their innate desire to be utterly dominated and sought after by men without women getting in the way/being free to feed into shit like 50 Shades but without a woman being the victim of it". Which, how in the fuck does that explain the popularity of visual yaoi among women? The focus is entirely on the uke, sometimes there's not even a dick in the picture, it's literally just the favored character looking sensual and fucked out. Are they telling me we get off to that by pretending we're the character in that doujin getting fucked? Cuz I sure as hell ain't.

I've no doubt there is projection for some women, but I hate that it's used as a universal explanation. Like no, I just like seeing the male character I'm most attracted to and like the most find love with another dude and then get fucked. I like seeing a male character be submissive for once. Sometimes it is that simple.

I've been in relationships where I felt like I couldn't even have a fucking opinion on what TV we watched, because he was so taking and my socialized, naturally nurturing ass was so damn giving. ( Like he would probably be willing to change channels, I just never brought myself to suggest it?! *headdesk*)

So yeah this *I like seeing a male character be submissive for once.* rings really fucking true for me.

Ayrt

Uh... I was agreeing with you, and providing an example of why women like slash that doesn't involve feeling threatened by fictional women.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-18 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
oh sorry anon. I thought you were being snarky. The prioritizing of fictional women’s feelings over real women in fandom has gotten so bad in certain parts of the internet (this place included) that I’ve become admittedly cagey.

No problem!
