Galaxy Quest! Such a great movie.

Me and my dad still regularly quote "Where are you going?" "TO SEE IF THERE'S A PUB."

can someone settle something about Galaxy Quest for me? I've never been sure why Tony Shaloub's character has a Chinese name unless it's supposed to be a nod to the fact that Dr. Soong on ST:TNG was played by the obviously not Asian Brent Spiner. I've been told I'm wrong about that. Am I? and if so, why does his character have a Chinese name?

5. Tony Shaloub auditioned for Guy Fleegman, but was offered Fred Kwan.
According to MTV, he told them:

“I’m not going to play an Asian guy, but I’ll play a guy that plays an Asian. How about that?”

Director Dean Parisot expounds on this:

“Tony brought up David Carradine in “Kung Fu” [another example of a non-Asian actor playing an Asian character] and the story goes — I don’t know if it’s true — that David Carradine was completely stoned all of the time on that show. Dialogue would just come out of his head and people would just stare at each other and think, “Where did that come from?” We knew we couldn’t do a stoner because we needed to hit a PG-13, but we basically suggested that.”

Pretty sure it's a nod to Soong.

Fifth Element is definitely one of my movies for just, everybody shut up, I'm here to have fun and listen to alien techno-opera!

Euro SF comic adaptations (or things made in that style) are so fun and awesome when they're done right. It's a shame that Valerian wasn't better and now probably nobody's going to keep making those kinds of movies. Fucking Dane DeHaan.

Well, calling it science fiction is maybe stretching the term a little bit, but for over the top cheese you just can't beat the 80s Flash Gordon.

On a (variably) more serious note, I also love Event Horizon, Star Trek III: Search for Spock, The Black Hole, Metropolis, The Iron Giant, Blade Runner, Wall-E and Tron.
