ridiculous accident thread

So, today I managed to fall down the stairs at work. While carrying my lunch. Which means I bruised my shins on the stairs, split a nail on the banister, and destroyed what would've been a really, really good sandwich and the filling flew through the air and spattered about like the world's most ill-advised confetti. No idea how I managed this, one second normal walking next second BAM.

What can't-believe-that-happened-how-did-I-even-DO-that-wish-there-were-film-so-I-could-set-it-to-Benny-Hill-music misshaps have you all had lately?

Recently when getting out of bed after not sleeping enough, I ran into my bedroom door frame with my shoulder, spun myself around to run into the hallway door opening, and then tripped over my own feet. Thankfully, I caught myself before I fell.

One time I was wearing my hair in pigtails, and I was doing some baking, and I got a pigtail caught in the stand mixer? That was both ridiculous and painful.

I fell down a staircase in college and dislocated my kneecap :(

I also backed into a parked car that was boxing me in once and I still feel bad even tho there was zero damage and the car was in the wrong according to the security agents

I did that once at home with taco stuff/sour cream in my hands. The sour cream container very literally exploded and went EVERYWHERE.

I read this as "ridiculous accent thread" and wondered what your story had to do with accents, LOL. Sorry to hear about your fall and glad you weren't badly hurt! RIP your sandwich. :(

Omg! I'm glad you didn't like - crack your skull or something!

I dunno if this counts - we had one of those egg-holder things in the 'fridge? And i was transferring the eggs from the carton to the holder-thing, and i dropped like five in a row. I have *no idea* why, just - pick up egg, fumble egg, clean up egg....pick up egg, fumble egg, clean up egg.... It was insane.

I fell over my cat and stood on a nail 15 years ago and tore the main tendon in my foot. I have had tendinitis there ever since. That condition has since spread to the other sole of my foot and to both my knees from overcompensating on my original injury. All case of a kittycat.

I've concussed myself twice, once opening my front door (my old apartment had a super heavy front door and I overcompensated one morning and leaned in as I yanked it open), and once when I was camping/drinking with friends and they went to the storage area under the cottage and screamed, so of course I went running and I didn't know the ceiling was hella low, so I beaned myself on super solid 4 x 4's. @__@

When we were little kids, my sister and I were getting out of the same side of a car. I realized I forgot something and leaned in to get it right as my sister was closing the door, and somehow - we still aren't sure how - my left EAR got caught in the door. I was totally fine - it was bruised for a day, didn't even bleed - but it was so bizarre.

I also once stepped on a toothpick, which broke in half when I tried pulling it out. Had to go to the ER to get the other half, which was both painful and embarrassing.

I got my leg caught on a tumbleweed once. It was blocking my car and there wasn’t anything handy around to remove it, so I kicked it and my leg got caught in the middle. I kept kicking my leg and it wouldn’t move, so I had to kinda waddle over to the sidewalk and kick it against the concrete until it broke apart.

I hit myself in the face with a shelf at work. Some of the shelves have hooks that fit into slots, and some of them are so stiff you basically have to punch the bottom of the shelf to push it up and out. I forgot to turn my head and uppercut the shelf full-force into my chin. Class.

So embarrassing and I did it to myself.

I had this clear plastic bin that sits in the cabinet under the sink in the bathroom that I used to hold extra rolls of toilet paper. When it was empty, I pulled it out and put it on the bathroom floor to remind myself to get some more toilet paper from the closet. Unfortunately, I didn't remember that I had set it on the floor, so the next time I walked into the bathroom, I tripped quite spectacularly on it, went down hard in a full-body slam on the tile floor and half in the tiled shower. I had some terrible bruises, including a doozy on my knee and one on my cheek, plus my teeth tore into the inside of that cheek and also bruised it. It could have been worse, the shower had small step down into it, so my head didn't hit as hard as it could have. But because people could see the bruise on my face, I had to explain what happened.

Over the weekend I visited the Mary Rose (Henry VIII's battle ship that was raised from the seafloor) and learned a very cool fact! The first cannons were made from bored out tree trunks, which had heated metal sheets hammered around them. Then, heated metal rings were placed around the length of the cannon which, when they cooled, would pull all the plates tighter together and reinforce the strength of the cannon along it's length - just like how barrels are made, hence why it's called the 'barrel of a gun'!
