Democratic Nominees

(Anonymous) 2019-02-19 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Bernie Sanders announced his intentions to run as a Democratic nominee. I'll take anyone over Warren and Booker.

Who are you hoping will run?

As long as you acknowledge that it's a vote for Trump, neat.

Re: Democratic Nominees

My preferred candidate at this point is Warren.

Re: Democratic Nominees

(Anonymous) 2019-02-19 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I've got mixed feelings about this. While Sanders is in many ways an ideal candidate for me, I do think his running and more specifically his supporters were a factor in why Hillary didn't have the support she needed to defeat Trump, i.e. too many bitter Sanders supporters sitting at home and not voting. Much like a third party vote, I think his presence splits away crucial support from the more mainstream Democrat vote, and I absolutely do NOT want any Republican to win the election.

Re: Democratic Nominees

(Anonymous) 2019-02-19 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I can’t wait to blame bitter PUMAs for when Sanders loses the general in 2020.

Re: Democratic Nominees

(Anonymous) 2019-02-19 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I am... pretty skeptical of this narrative about the 2016 election - I don't think there's a ton of evidence to support it, and I don't think it's a necessary factor to explain why the election had the result it did.

That said, I also think that... I mean, those people exist whether or not Sanders is in the primary. They believe what they believe, regardless of whether or not Sanders is in the party. I don't think Sanders being in the primary is going to change that much wrt those voters. And divisiveness in the party is by no means a one-way street.

A white guy with an ounce of charisma that other white guys won't be opposed to vote for.

Re: Democratic Nominees

(Anonymous) 2019-02-20 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Bernie's my pick of the ones who've announced so far. I can't think of anyone specific I'd want to run, but it's entirely possible there'll be someone else who'll run that I'll prefer, I just don't know who they are yet.

Re: Democratic Nominees

(Anonymous) 2019-02-20 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
There's no one I can think of who hasn't yet announced they're running who I want to see run, but of those who are going to run, I want to learn more about Kamala Harris and Tulsi Gabbard.

Re: Democratic Nominees

(Anonymous) 2019-02-20 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I’m not a fan of Gabbard being pro-Assad and neutral-to-positive on Putin. I like Harris okay, though.

Re: Democratic Nominees

(Anonymous) 2019-02-20 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
My personal opinion on Gabbard is that she's just not trustworthy. She's a snake. The Hindu nationalism stuff, the missing key votes for windsurfing photo ops, the weirdness around gay rights - she's just not someone I would feel able to trust, ever.

Re: Democratic Nominees

(Anonymous) 2019-02-20 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Don't trust Gabbard. She's got lots of weird and skeezy shit.

Wow, don't we have enough already?

(Anonymous) 2019-02-20 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Cory Booker
Pete Buttigieg
Julián Castro
John Delaney
Tulsi Gabbard
Kirsten Gillibrand
Kamala Harris
Amy Klobuchar
Bernie Sanders
Elizabeth Warren

Plus, the possibilities of Stacey Abrams, Michael Bennet, Joe Biden, Michael Bloomberg, Bill de Blasio, Sherrod Brown, John Hickenlooper,
Eric Holder, Jay Inslee, Terry McAuliffe, Jeff Merkley, Wayne Messam, Seth Moulton, Beto O'Rourke, Tim Ryan, and Eric Swalwell

So far, I like many of the issue positions of Harris and Gillibrand. There are a lot of things I agree with for Sanders, Warren and Booker, but some things I don't. I consider those five good to acceptable candidates right now, which may change as I get more information or as debates are had. I either don't know enough about the declared others or they have some positions that are off-putting enough that I don't see them as candidates I want. There are a couple in the possibilities that seem okay, but unless they declare, I'm not going to seriously consider them.

Dude, what's wrong with Warren? She's imminently qualified and great. Foot in the mouth a few times but has acknowledged it.

For sure Warren or Harris are at the top of my list.

Isn't Kamala Harris the senator who encouraged the public harassment of Trump allies and supporters?

I'll take anyone over Bernie. For three main reasons: his willfull ignorance on race and the impact of racism on a lot of the issues he actually cares about, how terrible he was at admitting defeat and being decent to Hillary, and the fact that he's another old white dude which is exactly what we don't need.

I like Warren. I like some of what Kamala Harris is about but am uncomfortable with her background as prosecutor.

Honestly, right now, my one firm thought is that the next president can't be a white man.

I like Bernie. If I was a yank, I would vote for Bernie everytime.

But I really hope Hilary runs just for the comedic element of seeing Bernie get fucking robbed again.

I don't WANT Bernie to get robbed, but I can't deny it would have a wonderfully hilarious trollishness about it.

I don't have my eye on anyone. We'll see how the current crop shakes out as we approach the primaries.
