Why are you working in your current job?

(Anonymous) 2019-02-20 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Is it because of the salary, location, the work itself or something else? If it's satisfaction from the work itself, hopefully you can share a bit about your jobscope or the industry that you are in.

Because it is the job I've been able to get doing what I want to do. I'm looking for something with better pay and benefits. But this is what I've got right now. And I do enjoy what I do.

I get paid. Benefits and retirement money are a plus too.

I was unemployed for a few months and this was the first offer I got. I don't like it, but I'm having trouble finding someplace else, and I get panicky thinking about not leaving without having another job lined up. Most of my co-workers are nice, though, and I do get health insurance, so it's not 100% terrible.

It was the first job I got after a year of unemployment and I’ve just kinda stuck with it ever since. I like it okay enough and my coworkers are awesome (just a tad gossipy), but it’s far from where I live, the pay’s not great, and I definitely have those “I don’t get paid enough for this shit” days. Still, it’s nice to have a steady paycheck and health insurance.

I drive trucks because I love it... even though I'm about to get hit by a blizzard and will have to drive in the Twin Cities tomorrow. You know you love something when even Minnesota drivers can't dampen your enthusiasm for it.

It's weird as fuck, and I have all sorts of weird stories to tell from it. I get tons of overtime and free food. If I can become full union I'll be making between $200 and $500 a day, which really isn't bad for someone who has no college degree or certification.

There are plenty of things I hate about it, though. I imagine quitting all the time.

While I like the fact that I'm helping people, if I won the lottery I'd quit immediately, so ultimately it's for the paychecks and benefits.

I do like most of my co-workers and only find a few of them mildly irritating, so that's a big plus, too.

Only job I got after being unemployed, plus college was a factor.

Special-needs school found me an internship at this place, it worked out well, the very idea of looking for anything else would play havoc on my anxiety; I'm staying.

I wanted to be an archaeologist so I became an archaeologist. I find it very stimulating and I love what I do. As to why I have my specific current job: it came up soon after I had been laid off from my previous job, and taking it meant I didn't have to move to another city, which I was expecting to have to do because full-time jobs in archaeology are not very thick on the ground. I moved to this city specifically to take my previous job, but I had grown comfortable in my neighborhood and apartment and wasn't keen on the idea of having to pack up everything and move cross-country on short notice. I do like my current job, particularly the people I work with.

I'm the only one who can fire me.
There are drawbacks to being self employed, but I can do my job from home and despite health issues
