"Cynical" wouldn't be my choice of words. The purpose of the outrage machine seems to be complete dehumanization of the transgressor along with those who dare defend them in any way or even call such dehumanization into question. The outrage machine, in itself, has become a toxic societal norm. It is certainly not doing the left any favors.

Dehumanization is exactly the word for it.

So, I understand your point. The thing is that I'm not sure how to balance that against the genuine desire for justice, especially in a society that often has no real mechanisms for justice. And the other thing is, there is just this massive swath of mechanisms that society already has for dehumanizing and ignoring people.

Yeah, I don't know what the answer is. I'm just telling you what it's not.

I'm not sure if you genuinely think outrage is a tactic that belongs only to the left, or if you're just trolling, but either way you aren't doing yourself any favors here.

Of course outrage isn't limited to the left. I was speaking within the context of the secret - i.e. celebrity scandals that deserve nuanced discussion of genuine societal issues rather than mob pile-ons. If you missed that, I'd have to question either your intelligence or your candor, and either way, the accusations of trolling are getting old.
