REMAKES!

(Anonymous) 2019-02-23 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
You can remake anything you want (show, movie, book, game). What director/author/writer do you choose to put their style on the remake? What from their style do you want to see?

Wizard of Oz. Version that is faithful to the books. I don't care how much of a classic the original movie is. Some changes I could live with, but the "this is all a dream" change ruins it for me. I don't care who does it as long as they are people who love the books (especially if they love the whole series). And as for style, I want the full-on childhood fantasy escape that the book is. There is a good animated movie (which I need to find a copy of). But it would be nice to have a good live action one.

Did you see the NBC series Emerald City that came out last year? They incorporated a lot of book elements. Tarsem Singh directed all of the episodes, so it's a worth a watch.

I'd love to see Del Toro's take on some 80s fantasy movies Legend (1985) or The Neverending Story.

Oh man yes, Del Toro would turn those to solid gold.

I would love if the original age of empires games were remade. Change nothing about the gameplay or plots, just new graphics.

Remake Eragon. Come on that series had so much potential as a teen film series that my adult ass would be front row in if done right.

Basically all those 'could have been' teen franchises that failed. But working.

Other than that, I am not so into remakes. I long for originals.

Eh, I only got through the first Eragon book because I was on a plane for 14 hours with nothing else to read, and even at that, if I could’ve chucked the book out over the Atlantic, I might’ve. I remember almost nothing about it except how derivative and clunky it was. But I was already an adult; given how much I loved anything to do with dragons as a teen, I might have loved Eragon, too, if I’d been a decade younger when the books came out.

That said, I’d hoped the film might be an improvement on the first book, but even dragons, Robert Carlyle, and Jeremy Irons weren’t enough to get me through it, so a remake could hardly be worse.

Eragon is basically Star Wars with dragons. Just watch Star Wars.

And Lord of the Rings, and Dragonriders of Pern, and some other stuff I’m forgetting because I only managed to read the first book once, when it first came out. I’ve read derivative stuff before and liked it; I think Eragon felt less integrated into a whole and more badly Frankensteined together, or something.

Which makes sense, since it was written by a 15 year old and originally self-published by his parents. But then there’s been a couple teen authors who wrote more coherent books (maybe they had great editors?) so idk.

I wonder if they could do Animorphs as a Netflix series? Give it a chance to embrace all the bone-crunching horror of the original.

I want an Alice in Wonderland that does justice to the books! (I have a lot of specific ideas but I'd be typing all night to list them.)

Inspector Gadget remake.

Cyberpunk-ish, 2d animation that's a blend between anime and comic books style-wise, with less of an emphasis on comedy and an actual overarching plot instead of episodic, and Gadget is explicitly, canonically pretending to be stupid instead of actually stupid (he can still be a clumsy goofball, I just hate how he gets more and more stupid with each installment). Maybe address the psychological ramifications of how traumatizing Gadget's accident and transformation into a more-machine-than-man cyborg would be, but without focusing on it. Like yeah, Gadget has PTSD, but that's not what the story is about.

Also no Maurice LaMarche as Gadget because I hate his voice as Gadget, it just sounds like a more energetic/emotional Brain (as in Pinky and the Brain) and not right for him, I'm willing to genderbend everyone if that's what it takes to keep him away from Gadget.
