I agree. I have more issues with this movie now than I used to (I don't think the whole Westley slapping Buttercup even read as okay when the movie was made). But it is still just so fun to watch. And his performance is great. Though I think Mandy Patinkin and Chris Sarandon are the best parts of this movie.

I started watching this again in a fit of ill-advised nostalgia.

You guys, it is bad. So bad.

I just. Plot. Story structure. None of it stands up with anything at
all resembling a coherent narrative.

It’s a nightmare from beginning to end, and it would be charming except
it has no idea how bad it actually is, omfg, how did it even get made.

Bonus:
I keep trying to analyze characters and relationships using skills I
now have as an actual goddamn adult working in health care, and while
pre-teen me knew they were pretty fucked up, adult me is straight-up horrified.

Bonus bonus:
I still kind of love it. But I think that’s because of the inexplicably significant quantity of fic I saved that somehow manages to be good despite being based on this train wreck of a show.

So Kingdom got a lot of hype, and tbh it deserved most of it. It’s genre-mixing in a way that isn’t particularly common, and for the most part it does it really, really well.

Characters are solid, plot and story story structure are fairly solid, sets and costumes looked great, it was basically a lot of fun.

No part of that is a secret. (why would it be)

No, I’m pissed off at the twist at the end, ok. The narrative spent so much energy actively associating sunrise and sunset specifically - not the presence or lack thereof of ambient light, ok, which would have been much
less significant inside the king’s quarters inside a goddamn building, but to the moment the sun cleared the horizon - that to have it suddenly be related to temperature instead of light in the last episode felt cheap.

Changes in temperature would have had even less of an effect inside a building, even if environmental control was less rigid in the Joseon period. It takes time for temperature to change and yet the zombies became active or inactive at sunrise/sunset to the minute, every time, until the last time. The plot twist was poorly set up, it was poorly executed, it was deliberately done that way (or so I assume, because every other detail was fairly well done) and it is interfering with my ability go to back and enjoy something I really liked up until literally the last minute.

I'm happy you are happy, OP. I've always personally hated this ship, and I'm not excited about this. Although I'll be okay with it if they do what other people have suggested and have it just be a "what could have been" but her staying with Will. But I'm glad that some people are enjoying this.

The literal MOMENT these two interacted in the film, I started shipping it. I immediately felt guilty because I firmly believe we need more positive representation of black men as romantic leads, and Aldis Hodge is a talented, attractive actor I really like.

The next moment, they established that Brandon, Josh Brener's character, is gay. I felt even guiltier, but fuck, man. My love for boss/employee power dynamic romances knows no bounds.

They couldn't even give me a romance between Brandon & Kellan Lutz's characters (it's with Pete Davidson's instead,) so I'm bitter. But I guess I can take solace in the fact that Ali & Brandon's relationship was arguably the most important & central to the plot.

P.S. Brandon thinking sport stats at her to prove his worth as a potential agent was hot af.
