I saw some edits of the original actors blended with the new actors and holy shit John Take/George Choi is daddy!

Damn it that was supposed to be Jeorge and Gohn.

I'm just happy we are getting canonically gay Star Trek characters. Main characters.

I know that it's not technically "canon" but I refuse to believe that Riker wouldn't fuck dudes

or aliens without human gender

or anything sentient really

Oh I agree. And we did get a same-sex kiss on DS9, so I've always interpreted Jadzia (and all Daxes really) as bi. But it is nice to have it explicit and up front and in the open.

And not to mention Garak

but, yes, canon, that's important

It makes sense though. Sulu only ever shows interest in one woman during TOS and it’s when Mirror!Sulu tries sexually assault Uhura. All of the other characters have romances of some sort.

People are still weird about gay characters, particularly canon ones. Having the one with the openly gay actor was the easiest. They were never going to down the K/S route.

It also meant a lot to John Cho that they had an Asian-Asian male couple as they are particularly stigmatised.

I wish they’d made Kirk bi as well.

I'd read that the romance story line in "This Side of Paradise" was originally meant for Sulu, hence why the woman's name sounds Hawaiian, but D. C. Fontana swapped him out for Spock. I'm guessing she figured having Spock act all blissed out and in love would increase the conflict by showing how powerful the plant spores could be.

hehe, WORKED FOR ME.

This secret confused me at first because while Sulu as a character is gay, John Cho of the picture is married to a woman. Turns out, I totally forgot about Takei! Oops.

I did the exact same thing, anon! Sat there puzzled for at least a full minute going "...but...what...?"
