110: People like you are the reason why I can't appreciate ANYTHING by Whedon any more: because crazy Whedon fans are so willing to praise everything he does as 100% perfect wonderful art that any time I look at his stuff -- even stuff I loved the first time I saw it -- all I can see are the flaws that the Whedon fans are going to gloss over, ignore, or fanwank away.

So, FUCK YOU. And fuck everyone who thinks like you. Not everyone likes Shakespeare, and Joss Whedon? IS NOT MOTHERFUCKING SHAKESPEARE.

(There's a deliciously tragic irony in the fact that Whedon's most ardent fans are the ones who've made it impossible for me to appreciate the good things about his work.)

Because I don't live in a coccoon. Because I watch TV and movies not just for their inherent value but so as to participate in a wider culture. Because I like to talk about the things I read and watch, and part of the enjoyment I derive from reading and watching things is knowing I'll be able to do so with reasonable and intelligent people. Because some of the people who made me hate Whedon are personal RL friends who I can't reasonably avoid. Because online, batshit Whedon fans seem to be everywhere I turn so I can't get away from them.

Being turned off a work by its fandom is not that rare (secrets of that kind show up in F!S all the time), so I don't know why you're acting shocked.
