A fairly big part of the show was that Niles and Frasier had no idea about blue-collar life. Everyone they were surrounded by saw them as friends, but stuck up.

I can't say I'd want to see a reboot either, only because John Mahoney is dead and yep, don't need to see rich white men crying over stupid shit.

I'm not sure if the premise would work as well now for the reasons you're suggesting. But like morieris, I'm not sure I'd have the heart to watch without John Mahoney in it.

It could work if they did it right but yes, absolutely, it would have an extremely high risk of failure. Especially if that fuck Kelsey Grammer is involved in it in any capacity

God I love, love the show, but I agree entirely that I'm just not sure it's premise would actually work today at all. And echoing everyone saying that without John Mahoney something would just feel like it's missing.

I just don't know if they could get a cast to work as much as this one did.

I love this show but it would NOT work as a reboot. As has already been stated, because no one could ever replace John Mahoney. (also, of course, Frasier and Niles are snooty as all fuck but so much of the humor of the show comes from their pompousness backfiring on them!)

I never watched the show much, but I did see an episode where they were going to a spa and made a scene when they weren't getting the most exclusive treatment. Whenever there was a door to another part of the spa that they weren't allowed to go through, they'd insist on getting whatever the more fancy package was. Finally, they are in the most exclusive, inner sanctum of the spa and there is another door. When no one is watching, they go through the door... only to find it was a fire door and they are now stuck in a grimy alley, cocooned in their seaweed wraps, and the door doesn't open from the outside.

hahaha I remember that ep. that's exactly what I mean by their pompousness backfiring on them!

I think the whole thing of poking fun at their pompousness and elitism could actually work if done right-it could be a good way to highlight a lot of what people are really fed up with about rich guys like Frasier and Niles nowadays.

And I think if they keep the focus on the family aspect of the characters-show Frasier and Freddie and how their relationship has changed and developed over the years, how Niles and Daphne are doing, show Frasier and Niles becoming even closer after the death of their father, things of that sort, that would make it worth watching, too. Many of the best moments of "Frasier" involved watching these people become close and develop and/or rebuild their bonds with each other.

But yes, I can also see where it could be very risky to pull off, too, and I don't think it will work if any of the remaining main cast outside of Frasier winds up making only guest appearances or something.

I'll check it out if all goes through, because curiosity and all, and "Frasier" is one of my favorite shows and whatnot. But I totally understand your concerns, and can see where it might be better to just leave things as they are.

As long as they have Niles gay already.

Maybe they could do something with Frederick.

Like, for some reason, maybe Frasier has to move in with Frederick, who, somehow, is relatively down-to-earth, if really neurotic (because, c'mon, how could he not be?). And Frasier and Niles have to confront their snobbery and how entitled they are from a different direction.

I mean, like other people are saying, that's the joke. Poking gentle fun at two cluelessly entitled pretentious white guys and their first world problems. Not only are they frequently called out for it in-show, but Martin and Daphne are often shown to be more content and in the end, proven right about a lot of things.

The first episode I ever saw was the one where Fraiser and Niles try to write a book together and for ages I thought they were a couple.

I thought it was incredible that the conservative channel 9 was showing it in prime time.

Then I felt like an idiot.
