I personally don't care, I was mainly thinking about the general attitude of fandom nowadays. I mean, there are antis calling childhood best friends who grew up together incest. I'm wondering if 'distantly related' is going to be overlooked.

The issues of abuse and dark topics are what I was talking about in terms of angst. Just about everyone had a tragic backstory and it wasn't just coming of age stories where the character struggles with growing up, there were stories like, 'head of the house doesn't like my girlfriend so they decide to take out my eye, sending said girlfriend spiraling into depression because she blames herself, leaving me to decide to erase myself from her memory.' The tone really spiked in both positive and negative extremes.

Anyway, what I meant to convey in my original post but completely failed to mention is I completely relate to the OP's secret. I bought all the DVDs as a teen but I know I won't be checking out the reboot at all. I think it's really just a matter of tastes changing as we get older and what we remember about a story not appealing like it did to us when we were younger.
