^ This. People who grew up with two functional parents and a relatively healthy childhood often don't understand what it's like having parents who aren't like that. They look at toxic parents and they don't see the toxicity, because they're imagining their own parents who aren't assholes. That's why you see so many people bleating "but but forgiveness!" and "but but faaaaaamily!"

Life is too short to spend with toxic people, no matter who they are.

It's not a bad subreddit for a short time. It's good to get validation, and to know you aren't nuts for what happened in your childhood. But honestly, it's easy to get lost there for hours, and not always with good results. Also, beware the echo chamber. Generally, if you're trying to heal and you find this place a hindrance to your healing, it's probably a good idea to limit your time there.
