there's some suuuuuuuper racist shit in the Oz books. Sure, 1909, but it's still grossly racist. and sexist, at least the first couple ones. lots of little girls being told they should get back in the kitchen.

Yes. I loved those so much as a kid. I went back and reread them recently, and oh boy. the funny thing is that the author was a feminist and wrote the books to encourage girls to be adventurous and bold. But he was the 1909 version of a male feminist, and it does show.
