The game is pretty much crack, the regular Square Enix stuff I guess. The fandom is just the same, lots of OOC smut of the main pairing and whatnot. It's a regular teen fandom, only it's smaller and generally more irritating. The fandom draws themselves basically all Mary-sue like and what not.

And umm...everyone is in love with the character Joshua, who is an asshole. Also half the fandom is full of people who are "OMG HATE" towards het. I don't know, I participate in fandom for a fic request here and there but nothing else. It's very...agh. Just it's very annoying. I'm used to big fandoms where you can avoid these things.

... And I suppose that Joshua/Neku is the main pairing, no? Ah, hellsauce. Is the het-half of the fandom relatively sane, at least?

Yes, yes it is. Ridiculous AUs and all, god it bothers me. I love a good AU but that is literally just drawing the line.

Het-half? Those are usually the people who support pretty much everything. From what I experienced, they are sane but only saner then the Joshua/Neku side...

It's not much of a difference, but basically they will be the half of the fandom that lurks alot and won't lynch you. Just more mature, their pairing choices are not so sane though.

If that is the lay of the land, methinks that I shall just remain a blissfully uninvolved layabout and stay out of the fandom. Or who knows: maybe it will be like KH-fandom and mellow down as time goes by. One can always hope.

I'm just desperate for something that's actually good writing. I'm one of the younger people in the fandom, but I never ever ever write smut and I like to think I don't write OOC. I don't have anything to compare it with, but I've been told I'm one of the better writers despite my age. My age is exactly what I'm wary of...I don't have as much experience...

Just wanted to throw this out there~ the reason I like Joshua is because he's a jackass. He's more interesting then cardboard-cutout Shiki/Neku/Eri but then again, that's just my opinion.

I agree with you though, fandom is a little batshit, and definitely needs to stop hating on het.

Oh, agreed that Joshua is... well, likeable may be stretching it because I don't actually LIKE him but I find him COMPELLING because he's a jackass, I think he's interesting as a character and all that... but man alive, Joshua/Neku just burns my ass something fierce. I think it is because I saw in their relationship not something romantic, but a being alien to human emotion being intellectually interested in an unexpectedly odd human. And Joshua was to Neku someone who got him thinking about stuff he usually didn't, forced him to take stands on where he stood etc. But romance? Never saw it. I know there'll probably be some people who can make it work, but over all I just... get irrationally angry about it.

So in short: I acknowledge that Joshua is a good characer. But Lord above would I want to kick his smarmy teeth in if I met the douche in real life. Me, I would hang with Beat. He is my homeboy. I am so very very GAR for Beat.

AGREED. Which is why people probably can see them having romantic..."relationships" (if you can call anything with Joshua a relationship XD). But yes, Joshua/Neku is way overdone and overrated and there's far too much OOC fic of them. I used to not mind it but now...augh. I wish fandom liked something different ):

Alas, such is fate. And I suppose that when the other pairing options are either Shiki/Joshua (EWW HET), Neku/Beat (BUT BUT HE'S NOT A WAI WAI BISHIE), and Kariya/Minamimoto... and Minamimoto/The big bear guy... and Kariya/Uzuki and and Uzuki/Beat and Hanekoma/Joshua and you know what? I retract my earlier point: there are tons of potential pairings in here and just focusing on the obvious Joshua/Neku is nothing but plain lazyness.

Oh yes, Beat. The thing is that I get along with people like Beat IRL: more heart than brains and only a scant few ounces of planning-ability. They can be pretty cool if not as immediately striking as characterss like Joshua, and that is why it saddens me that the most popular pairing with him seem to be with his sister.

Yes, one can imagine that Neku, having never been in a relationship before and Joshua, even if he WOULD have good intentions for him, just... I don't see Joshua handling someone like Neku in a relationship. Sooner or later he would start to play a game to make sure he wouldn't get bored, he would manipulate Neku in some way and Neku would not walk away from it unscarred in some way. Intriguing material for someone who wishes to explore dark and unhealthy sides to a relationship, oh yes. But don't you come here and sell me on those two being an OTP, a few months in his company and I bet you Neku would rather jump into bed with Uzuki then stay anywhere near Joshua. And Uzuki? She likes it rough. So very, very rough. Just ask Kariya Or Beat who while HOPEFULLY did not end up ravaged by any of them most DEFINITELY had to share living quarters with them and got no sleep whatsoever, AT ALL.

And not to worry, I can keep my fingers from the keyboard in this case.

...I...think I love you. Neku would never fall in love with Joshua, the farthest it will go is Neku being so manipulated to think that Joshua is all he deserves, it becomes an addiction for praise he never had in his childhood, Joshua forces him into the conposer job somehow...

I have no OTP in the TWEWY fandom. Your comment just reminded me how very much I love Beat. There needs to be more Beat in this fandom.

THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS auuugh. THIS is why I like Joshua/Neku. THIS is what I want from the pairing now. Admittedly, I am one of those who does Joshua/Neku the wrong way but in my defense, at least I'm not as OOC as some of the other fic on the comm.

Just...guh. Typical Squeenix fanbrat type stuff, I guess. There's this whole trend going on at the main comm where everyone and their mother is drawing themselves but in the TWEWY style, except... Like, two of them were actually in the TWEWY style and not just an excuse to draw themselves. Which can get really annoying after the first thirty times. Oh, and now they've started fanfics of their TWEWY-selves. At least they're being up-front about it being a self insert? I dunno.

And if you want to find something not Joshua/Neku, you had better be ready for some digging.

Oh, and there's this one WIP that apparently everybody reads, or something, because the two main OCs in it (horrible AU versions of Joshua and Neku) get requested on drabble request posts all the time, and I see random fics including them everywhere. I couldn't even get through more than two chapters of the thing.

I dunno. It's not all horrible, and there are a couple good fics and some interesting discussions, but it's pretty hard to find.

I absolutely cannot stand the stupid TWEWYself drawings. I cannot stand the stupid TWEWYself fic. That same fic author once upon a time made a post on the comm that was basically her saying "HI I HAVEN'T BEEN HERE IN A WHILE BUT YOU GUYS USED TO FANFAG OVER ME, SO HERE I AM, REMINDING YOU OF THIS" and it made me want to slap babies.

Joshua/Neku was all fine and good when only a few people were writing it decently. I abso-fucking-lutely hate all the stupid OOC stripper!Joshua and pointless porn fic. It's driving me crazy. Now Joshua/Neku is all that anyone will write and I'm quite sick of it. The few good, sane people in the fandom have probably long fled.

But uh yeah, other than that, fandom is a-okay. For the most part, everyone's relatively nice.

Different anon here, but I have to agree with you. The TWEWYself stuff was okay the first time, but ever since it became a bandwagon it's pissed me off.

Josh/Neku is my main OTP for the fandom, and I love it to bits and pieces but I hate hate HATE what people have done to it. Some people do it justice, but so many people forget Joshua is an ungrateful douchebag who can and will walk all over you, and Neku isn't a weepy uke who will roll over to Josh. At the very beginning I liked the stripperfic, but now it's just gotten old and so OOC and aaaaaaargh. I liked it better when it was pure crack and didn't take itself so seriously with the sex and selfcest and whatnot. I still gobble up anything Josh/Neku because I am a stupid and masochistic slut for the pairing, but I feel awful for the people who don't like it and I just want people to do it right.

Fandom is nice, though. It's nothing to pack up and move for, but it's not horrendous or anything. Or at least, I don't think so.

I know, I love Joshua/Neku too, but the fact that no one seems to be able to keep them in character makes me want to kick puppies. I hardly read any fic for them anymore. I just re-read whatever I can find that's not to horrible OOC xD And that stripper!fic was an okay idea for crack, but I dunno, people actually requesting the characters and treating it like Aztec gold or something annoys me to no end.

At least there's really no wank anywhere.

There was the wank over one person who couldn't type very well kind of whining and asking for het a while while back, but that was it. I'm kind of worried the fandom is just swelling with the beginning of wank, though. It happened in the PW fandom, and it could happen here.

Stripper!Joshua fic irked me so so so much. I got so mad at it because all I want an AU of at this point is Joshua playing the cello and Neku playing something utterly ridiculous like the french horn. All of it in some strict Catholic Boarding School and Joshua pretty much manipulates all his music to control everyone's mind or some weird psychological stuff with instruments.

Maybe I'm insane.

IAWTC. Most of the Josh/Neku fic I read is so OOC that I can't even recognize Joshua or Neku in it. Some of these AU things - even the stripper one - could be interesting if they were done right. As they stand right now, they piss me off.

The thing is, putting yourself in TWEWY-land is kind of interesting because in a way, the game IS a story about selfdiscovery. Truth to be told I am half tempted to write a story where I am a selfinsert (intellectually bored, the standard set of angst and despair about my situation in a vast and unfeeling world etc etc), who end up becoming so obsessed and absorbed into the Game that in order to find it's answers I, say, end up a highly selfdestructive Reaper who becomes trapped in a circle of powerrushes.

Because really, who among us could say that we could resist the temptation to become creatures of superior physical ability and a connection to a 'higher' plane of existance than this regular, maudlin world? And who among us can say that they would, in the end, have the strength to resist such power and end up as ensnared and trapped in THAT world's rules and illusions as we were in our own world? See, I think there could actually be POTENTIAL in TWEWY-selfinsert-fic, but if it ias much fail as there seem to be... well, that's too bad.

But as you say, there seems to be some good in it, as there are in fandoms. Perhaps I will dip my toes in a little, see if I can escape untainted and all that before venturing deeper in.
