Just...guh. Typical Squeenix fanbrat type stuff, I guess. There's this whole trend going on at the main comm where everyone and their mother is drawing themselves but in the TWEWY style, except... Like, two of them were actually in the TWEWY style and not just an excuse to draw themselves. Which can get really annoying after the first thirty times. Oh, and now they've started fanfics of their TWEWY-selves. At least they're being up-front about it being a self insert? I dunno.

And if you want to find something not Joshua/Neku, you had better be ready for some digging.

Oh, and there's this one WIP that apparently everybody reads, or something, because the two main OCs in it (horrible AU versions of Joshua and Neku) get requested on drabble request posts all the time, and I see random fics including them everywhere. I couldn't even get through more than two chapters of the thing.

I dunno. It's not all horrible, and there are a couple good fics and some interesting discussions, but it's pretty hard to find.

I absolutely cannot stand the stupid TWEWYself drawings. I cannot stand the stupid TWEWYself fic. That same fic author once upon a time made a post on the comm that was basically her saying "HI I HAVEN'T BEEN HERE IN A WHILE BUT YOU GUYS USED TO FANFAG OVER ME, SO HERE I AM, REMINDING YOU OF THIS" and it made me want to slap babies.

Joshua/Neku was all fine and good when only a few people were writing it decently. I abso-fucking-lutely hate all the stupid OOC stripper!Joshua and pointless porn fic. It's driving me crazy. Now Joshua/Neku is all that anyone will write and I'm quite sick of it. The few good, sane people in the fandom have probably long fled.

But uh yeah, other than that, fandom is a-okay. For the most part, everyone's relatively nice.

Different anon here, but I have to agree with you. The TWEWYself stuff was okay the first time, but ever since it became a bandwagon it's pissed me off.

Josh/Neku is my main OTP for the fandom, and I love it to bits and pieces but I hate hate HATE what people have done to it. Some people do it justice, but so many people forget Joshua is an ungrateful douchebag who can and will walk all over you, and Neku isn't a weepy uke who will roll over to Josh. At the very beginning I liked the stripperfic, but now it's just gotten old and so OOC and aaaaaaargh. I liked it better when it was pure crack and didn't take itself so seriously with the sex and selfcest and whatnot. I still gobble up anything Josh/Neku because I am a stupid and masochistic slut for the pairing, but I feel awful for the people who don't like it and I just want people to do it right.

Fandom is nice, though. It's nothing to pack up and move for, but it's not horrendous or anything. Or at least, I don't think so.

I know, I love Joshua/Neku too, but the fact that no one seems to be able to keep them in character makes me want to kick puppies. I hardly read any fic for them anymore. I just re-read whatever I can find that's not to horrible OOC xD And that stripper!fic was an okay idea for crack, but I dunno, people actually requesting the characters and treating it like Aztec gold or something annoys me to no end.

At least there's really no wank anywhere.

I know how you feel, anon. A few people can do it (I can give links if desired?) but so many just don't write... Joshua and Neku. They have their names, but they're not Joshua and Neku.

There was the wank over one person who couldn't type very well kind of whining and asking for het a while while back, but that was it. I'm kind of worried the fandom is just swelling with the beginning of wank, though. It happened in the PW fandom, and it could happen here.

I cannot even draw and those TWEWY!self things annoy me.

Stripper!Joshua fic irked me so so so much. I got so mad at it because all I want an AU of at this point is Joshua playing the cello and Neku playing something utterly ridiculous like the french horn. All of it in some strict Catholic Boarding School and Joshua pretty much manipulates all his music to control everyone's mind or some weird psychological stuff with instruments.

Maybe I'm insane.

IAWTC. Most of the Josh/Neku fic I read is so OOC that I can't even recognize Joshua or Neku in it. Some of these AU things - even the stripper one - could be interesting if they were done right. As they stand right now, they piss me off.

Haha oh man, and I suppose that the vast majority of them are just as 'speshul' as Neku and can use all the different pins and save the world? Man oh man.

The thing is, putting yourself in TWEWY-land is kind of interesting because in a way, the game IS a story about selfdiscovery. Truth to be told I am half tempted to write a story where I am a selfinsert (intellectually bored, the standard set of angst and despair about my situation in a vast and unfeeling world etc etc), who end up becoming so obsessed and absorbed into the Game that in order to find it's answers I, say, end up a highly selfdestructive Reaper who becomes trapped in a circle of powerrushes.

Because really, who among us could say that we could resist the temptation to become creatures of superior physical ability and a connection to a 'higher' plane of existance than this regular, maudlin world? And who among us can say that they would, in the end, have the strength to resist such power and end up as ensnared and trapped in THAT world's rules and illusions as we were in our own world? See, I think there could actually be POTENTIAL in TWEWY-selfinsert-fic, but if it ias much fail as there seem to be... well, that's too bad.

But as you say, there seems to be some good in it, as there are in fandoms. Perhaps I will dip my toes in a little, see if I can escape untainted and all that before venturing deeper in.
