OP 139. ( tl;dr But I am being serious with my reply? )

(Anonymous) 2008-09-13 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
I do believe that if you don't vote ( and can ), you don't have a right to complain about the politics or the way things are handled. So the next four years, I will not be talking ill of how the administration is running the country if I am upset with it.

I've voted every election ( Regardless of whether it was the "all important Presidential election". So yes, I was someone who voted every single year ) since I was of legal age to vote. Then I got the pleasure of seeing how fucked up the voting system is. . .not just in general, but by state by state. And how stupid people are when it COMES to casting their vote.

Presidential Election between Kerry and Bush? I had the pleasure of sharing a ride in an elevator with two young college women who were saying they wouldn't vote for Kerry because he "looks like a Donkey".

Washington State, 4 years ago. Race for the Governor? Republican Candidate won by a slim margin. The State called for a recount. Republican Candidate won a second time. The Democratic Party demanded a recount a third time and were told they have to pay for it. They were given a deadline, raised enough money by the deadline, and a recount was done. There was talk of just doing a revote, but they decided against it. The second recount yielded the Democratic Candidate as winner by a small margin and was made Governor. After she was Governor, a wave of ballots were discovered. . .several that didn't get counted, several duplicate votes, several votes from the deceased and several from felons. But ya know, whatever. Let's not bother correcting the error.

Not to mention my anger and rage how Dems only count caucus results in primaries and that I was once forced to vote for all one party ( So fuck me for being an independent! I use to be forced to pick a party due to laws that now are [ thankfully ] gone. )

AND THIS RACE MY GOD. A bit unfair in my opinion when it came to the Democratic Race. All that the media and the majority of the people gave a shit about. . .the possibility of having the first black man or first female president. I was pretty invested in it and was pulling for a candidate after seeing who I felt had the best chance to fixing the country. But the majority of people I know, only gave a damn about one thing if they were planning on voting democrat.

Do I want a woman president or do I want a younger/black president?

So yeah. After being fed all the MSM and hearing about all the pointless arguments? Yeah. I am throwing my hands in the air for this year's election and saying "I give up." After getting so angry and upset over everything ( Because I was very invested in this Presidential Election. ) I realized. . .this is not doing any good for me. The only way I can keep my sanity is to just laugh at it and pretend it is all joke.

Let me end on this note ( If you are still reading this, I do apologize for the really long reply. ), Washington State use to be a Pick-A-Party system where you had to vote within one and only one party and you had to declare what party you were affiliated with or your vote did not count. The reason why Washington State is no longer a Pick-A-Party state? The first election that it held under that law. . .people didn't vote. There was a HUGE drop in voter participation and people sent in blank ballots, cut up ballots, and the like. Not voting sent a HUGE message to the Secretary of State and it was changed.

Of course, I am just one person and I am pretty sure there will be plenty of people voting come the General. I'm not throwing away my ballot, no. I am going to use it in an art piece to show the MSM war that has gone on this year.

That doesn't make any fucking sense. :/

So you're saying, I'm going to silence myself forevah and watch this country and the whole world go to hell.

We're not only talking about just 'the next four years'. Do you know what these 'next four years' will lead to? Jesus Christ.

No. For example. . .I think that we should start pulling troops out of Iraq. If Obama is elected and he doesn't start pulling troops out as fast as he said he would. . .I am not going to bitch and whine that he isn't doing what he should be doing or that he is doing a bad job.

Of course, I have still voted before and continue to vote for other positions and races so my state representatives are involved. So it isn't that I am saying "fuck off" to the entire country. I am helping putting people that I think can help the country out in positions where they can actually do something.

Just for the presidential ticket? I don't vote based on party affiliation and neither candidate has stuck out enough for me to vote for them. I've gone back and forth so many times in this race, it's nauseating. And when people hear I am on the fence? They fucking bite my head off and try to feed me MSM bullshit that is nothing but sensationalized and biased news or their unsupported opinion. I've done the research and can't decide. I'm just fucking sick of people giving me pointless reasons to vote for their candidate.

So if I write in a name for the Presidential Seat, I don't think that is a good way to get "my voice heard."

I understand that you may have spent many years watching all the ridiculous shit that goes on during elections and feel a bit disgusted by all of it, including the craziness this year. I know there are a LOT of people who are only voting for Obama because they want a black president.

I still don't get it. I'm DYING to be able to vote in this election, not because it's a black president and some old white guy up for it, but because I think this particular election is so crucial to our future.

I still think it's stupid not to vote if you are able to, especially since there are people like me, 15, 16, 17 year olds who wish they could vote and couldn't. But that's a personal decision of course.

However, I somehow doubt you'll manage to avoid making comment on our future president. If Obama/McCain gets elected and manages to seriously fuck things up and somehow get us in a global arms war, you'd be pissed. But, by your own standards, unable to say anything.

I was pretty invested with this election, because I agree. . .it is pretty important.

But I personally don't agree with voting based on party affiliation. So when my preferred candidate dropped from the race ( Bill Richardson. I truly think he would do great things for our country and I hope he runs again in the future. ) I wasn't just going to go "Yay, Democrats." and vote for whoever that party selected to be on the ticket. Sure, people within one party tend to share similar stances on issues. . .they aren't the same! When you really do the research, you can find two dems or republicans that vary quite a bit from each other.

Between Obama and McCain. . .I keep going back and forth. I've gone back and forth so many times, I realized. . .that either candidate? I can't fully support. While there are things I like about both candidates, there are a lot of things I don't like at the same time. I know, no candidate is going to be "perfect" in that agreeing with you 100%. ( Except maybe with issues they try to be wishy-washy over ) But between the two, for me, the positives and negatives are about equal.

I can't decide. And unless one of the candidates really impresses me or gives me a solid reason to vote for them. . .I am not casting a vote for the presidential seat. How can I? I do take it seriously and that's why I've struggled with trying to decide who to vote for this whole time.

My secret was really to bring attention to how there are a lot of people who aren't taking it seriously. Feeding off of lies and dirty tricks that both parties are dishing out. When I try to have conversations with people about this, about my "problem" you could say, I just get slapped up with more of the MSM stuff that. . .is just dirty politics and sensationalized news.
