What are you favorite genres in original published fiction?

Romance, drama, and comedy in fanfiction.
Re: What are you favorite genres in original published fiction?
Fic: Uh.... realistic science fiction military horror with a side of porn?

The Resident Evil novelizations (some of them) are just on the so-bad-it's-good side of bad.
For actual good books, it's been a bit since I read much of anything for pleasure but I quite enjoyed Burning Sky by Weston Ochse. Not an especially challenging read, but I like brain candy right now.

I've read a lot of good sci-fi fic, though.

The Expanse, for one - holy gods. The books *and* the series. Amazing.
I thought the movie Pandorum was awesome, as was The Martian and John Carter (sadly not female leads, but good female characters), and i really enjoyed 10 Cloverfield Lane. Annihilation was extremely weird but also really good (and creepy). I like the women in Pitch Black and The Abyss. Loved loved loved the women in the series Defiance, and loved most of the women in Falling Skies. Humans also has some amazing women.
Not *exactly* sci-fi, but Kate Winslet is excellent in Contagion.
For books, I love the sci-fi of CJ Cherryh, excellent women, really *interesting* stuff. The Cyteen series is particularly amazing and disturbing.

Fic: erotica (mainly M/M and F/F, but some M/F). Action/adventure. Slight canon alteration AUs. Fics similar in feel to canons.
In both I tend to avoid straight up romance if it doesn't include full-on sex scenes. Romance on its own is boring. Romantic relationships in the midst of action are fine. I also don't go looking for straight-up comedy. Again, there can be humor within the other genres, but something with the primary intent being humor, I'm probably not interested.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-09 12:15 am (UTC)(link)Fanfic: Give me alllll the romance. For whatever reason I feel like romantic fanfic is way more interesting/less cliche than published stuff.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-09 12:29 am (UTC)(link)Fanfic: hurt/comfort, pulpy adventure, found-family fluff, oddball AUs
So … probably pretty similar, I think? Fanfic just lets me focus more on the in-depth emotional bits of my favourite genres
Re: What are you favorite genres in original published fiction?
I don't reach much fanfic, but when I do it's gen or romance involving my favorite characters.
