I love sci-fi and fantasy, but find most 'fantasy' fic to be incredibly tedious.
I've read a lot of good sci-fi fic, though.

For tv/movies?

The Expanse, for one - holy gods. The books *and* the series. Amazing.
I thought the movie Pandorum was awesome, as was The Martian and John Carter (sadly not female leads, but good female characters), and i really enjoyed 10 Cloverfield Lane. Annihilation was extremely weird but also really good (and creepy). I like the women in Pitch Black and The Abyss. Loved loved loved the women in the series Defiance, and loved most of the women in Falling Skies. Humans also has some amazing women.

Not *exactly* sci-fi, but Kate Winslet is excellent in Contagion.

For books, I love the sci-fi of CJ Cherryh, excellent women, really *interesting* stuff. The Cyteen series is particularly amazing and disturbing.
