Petty complaints

Mine: Slash shippers asking writers about pairings that have a lot less "subtle evidence" than people writing tumbls essays insist. I'm already seing the signs of Good Omens becoming the next Sherlock and I hate it.

I mean... the book is pretty damn shippy...

Re: Petty complaints

(Anonymous) 2019-03-09 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, the author doesn't mind questions about it.

Agreed. And noooooooo... Good Omens is such a quiet little fandom. FUCK OFF, TUMBLR

Re: Petty complaints

(Anonymous) 2019-03-09 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
what kind of hipsterism is this!

Re: Petty complaints

(Anonymous) 2019-03-09 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
The kind that enjoys peace and fucking quiet and that doesn't want the giant turd that is tumblr to come steamrolling over with their poisonous drama, joyless approach to fandom and life in general. If I could I would spit on it.

You don't want people with a joyless approach to fandom, eh?

DA Yes, what generally happens is that new version swamps original version, then thunders on into the distance, leaving nothing at all behind.

People talking about the evils of pirating when the great tv shows coming out soon are split between Netflix, Amazon, HBO and Hulu and ain't nobody got the $$$$$ stay on that high horse.

You don't buy them all once. They all have monthly plans you can cancel at any time.

Nayrt but who has the time to be all, "Okay and this month I will cancel HBO and subscribe to Netflix, and next month I will cancel Netflix and subscribe to Hulu..."

I don't want Good Omens to become the next Sherlock (oh God, please, if you ever loved me), but C/A slash in Good Omens has been a thing since Good Omens was a thing.

Re: Petty complaints

(Anonymous) 2019-03-10 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I was gonna say that I love Good Omens even though I’m not in the fandom but Crowley/Aziraphale slash and its, er, very enthusiastic fandom definitely both predate tumblr. I remember seeing warring fancast fights on livejournal.

Re: Petty complaints

(Anonymous) 2019-03-10 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
It's also been something fans have been asking the creators about for about as long, if I'm remembering the thing about Aziraphale and Crowley 'sharing a cottage in the South Downs' right.

Re: Petty complaints

(Anonymous) 2019-03-10 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Good Omens had a lot of excellent slashfic but it’s going to be drowned out reams of badfic from now on :-(

Re: Petty complaints

(Anonymous) 2019-03-10 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
But more fic overall almost certainly means some of the new stuff will be amazing, even if there’s also lots of crap.

Re: Petty complaints

(Anonymous) 2019-03-10 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, also this. I remember when I joined fandom in the late 90's as a teen, all the grown-up and sophisticated fanfic writers I admired seemed to ship this. I remember feeling pretty bummed I couldn't talk to them about it because I hadn't read the book yet lol.

Re: Petty complaints

(Anonymous) 2019-03-10 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Fandom attributing certain annoying tendencies to "slash shippers" when other kinds of shippers all do it in equal amounts. For another example, "slash shippers hate female characters for getting in the way!" as if people whose ships contain women don't also hate on female characters who aren't a part of their ship and "get in the way" of it. (And f/f shippers hate male characters for this even more frequently, but I guess that's ok because hating men isn't systemic and men are trash anyway uwuwuwu)

Re: Petty complaints

(Anonymous) 2019-03-10 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not in any f/f fandoms, so I can't speak to that part of your comment, but otherwise, yeah, you make a legit point.

In fact, personally I feel like the het fandoms I've been in have actually been, on average, more unabashedly horrible to female characters who come between their ship. In my experience, a lot of people in slash fandoms are aware of how fandom treats encroaching female characters, and will try to temper their urge to be horrible to said female characters. Whereas in het fandoms it seems more common for people to either not be aware of the sexism, or just not give a fuck.

Sometimes I wish I didn't get into the social side of fandom. It seems like I'm the only one who sticks around while everyone else has long abandoned what we all once loved.

I get that everyone has the right to keep and drop fandoms as they wish, but it's just so goddamn frustrating sometimes. Are things only interesting because they're new?
