Yup. She really grated on my nerves.
BUT - she got screwed over harder than any of the other kids, and while I don't like her final actions, I do understand why that's a choice she'd make (if she was even capable of being rational at that point).

But was she? Like Luther was literally exiled to the moon.

And she was literally brainwashed and mentally abused, so.....

They were all brainwashed and mentally abused though?

Klaus was locked in a mausoleum as a child. Ben was forced to use powers he didn't want to. He was also the only child we saw having to murder people. Hell, Luther is a stereotypical abused child who thinks if he just does what his dad does, his dad will finally love him.

Other than being forced to forget she had powers, Vanya had the easiest life. She wasn't forced to be a child soldier while being mentally tortured at the same time.

Oh, yeah, easy life, seeing your siblings get special treatment, fame, all kinds of amazing things, and you are literally told, daily, that you don't belong, aren't special, are worthless, aren't really a part of anything.

While having had your brain basically erased so you don't remember you have powers.

It's not the oppression Olympics, but c'mon. She didn't have an 'easy life'.

She was just locked up for more than a day inside a quiet room that the longest time someone could stay in was 45 minutes and this was when she was 4 years old and for years and years made to think that she was ordinary when her siblings were extraordinary. But yeah no big, if you had to stay in a quiet chamber you would be having a grand old time amirite.

Luther was emotionally damaged enough to "voluntarily" spend years 100% isolated in the moon but go off I guess.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-10 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
And he made that choice. Not picking a side here, but putting a 4 year old in an isolation/sensory deprivation chamber for who the fuck knows how long, is not comparable to that.

He was an adult.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-10 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Reginald had Allison use her powers on Vanya. That's a whole other level of brainwashing from their already shitty upbringing.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-10 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
BUT - she got screwed over harder than any of the other kids

THIS. They were all living in a situation of extreme chronic abuse. Not a single one of them got anything less than hellish treatment. But Vanya got several extra helpings of horrible.

wasn't she killing her nannies so she didn't have to eat oatmeal?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-10 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you seriously bringing that up again? She was four, it was an accident, and her adult guardian did absolutely nothing about it. All of the kids were trained to kill ffs.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-10 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Watching that scene there's a lot to suggest that:

a) Reginald encouraged it so he could see the scope of her powers
b) she was FOUR she probably didn't understand the permanence of using her powers on people
c) it was a four year old version of having a tantrum with weapons she can't control, ie, giving a four year old a gun and having it go off.
