Okay, I've got a good one.

So my friend's uncle passed away unexpectedly. She and he were very close. A couple of weeks after the funeral, I was helping her clean out his house and we found a complete set of KKK robes and a fuckton of interracial gay porn featuring black men topping white men. It was beyond awkward and I had no idea what to say to my friend besides I'm so sorry.

If it were a total stranger, yeah, that's the simplest explanation. I'm not trying to apologize for racists or anything.

But OP said that their friend was close to the uncle, and if the uncle were racist to the point of being a KKK member, then you'd think the friend & family would know it.

A guy being in the KKK is simple... a grandpa having been part of the KKK 60 years ago is simple... an uncle who was presumably middle aged, currently in the KKK, and close family not realizing is kind of weird.

Disagree - the point of the KKK is anonymity. Especially since it’s not 60 years ago, unless you are from a fully white supremacist family, chances are it would be a secret from family.

Well, the entire point of the robes is to hide a person's identity so people don't know how racist they actually are, so I'd say it's unreasonably generous to assume he was only a kinkster.
