What are some hard opinions you have about fandoms, you are NOT in?

Mine is that I think the character design of the lead for the new Devil May Cry game is hideous. Also, the way the games are named are stupid.

From what little knowledge I have of ASoIaF/GoT after never watching the show or reading the books: the backstory involving the previous generation is much more interesting to me than the current time period. If the books were following Robert's rebellion then I might actually be motivated to read them.

Also, Jaime is the most interesting character in the story just based on his decision to stab his own king in the back. Not sure how much the canon gets into that but he's the character that makes me want to get into the series once it's over.

i am in that fandom and IA so hard ab the backstory. currently reading fire and blood (the targaryen history) and it's already so much more interesting than the "regular" books, even if some paragraphs are just names and dates LOL

Neither Klance nor Sheith were ever going to be canon and sure, the Klance shippers were obnoxious but seen from the outside, the Sheith crowd got really goddamn smug.

Even from the inside tbh.

Which is what the last season hurt so much since most of us had been convinced that they might stand a chance.

I wouldn't say it's a hard opinion. I'm not in the HP fandom but the popularity of the headcanon that Harry is Indian still baffles me. I see art of it sometimes that makes me think they've never actually seen an Indian person before.

Games fandoms need to stop complaining about unethical business practices and start not buying games that are full of the unethical business practices they claim to hate.

They're not going to do that though.

DA
Yeah, like all the hardcore stans are actually going to give up saying "I've got more games than you!" After that, all pretense of supposed moral policing is out the damned window.

I think it's hilarious Overwatch has such a big fandom, given the fact that none of the sprites are actual characters, nor do they have any personality. That people were so pleased when they announced certain characters were gay is so hypocritical since a lot of them were the same people who criticized J.K. for doing the exact same thing.

Re: What are some hard opinions you have about fandoms, you are NOT in?

(Anonymous) 2019-03-23 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't find that the same thing at all.

Overwatch's story isn't published and finalized. It's been given in small releases of backstory all along. There's no set of finished Overwatch books. Overwatch's story is still evolving with 76 and Tracer in it, still being gay within canon. They're explicitly canon gay.

Which Dumbledore never got in the original books. Nobody's complaining about Dumbledore being gay in the new stories - they complained about it because it was nowhere in the original books.

And I should add, I'm not an OW fan and I've never played it. But even I have picked up the characters have personalities purely from hanging out on FS. There are literally official story videos and artwork about them with backstory. The new character intro videos go into who they are and what drives them.

So I have no idea where you're coming from with this.

This. The canon is still being created and added to the game. Tracer has voice lines and sprays alluding to her girlfiend. 76 has a spray.

They are still release comics and videos updating the story. For general personalities and interactions, they all have in-game interactions. That is how you know stuff like Zarya is racist (speciest?) against omnics.

Also, knowing Blizzard they will eventually release some novelizations of their lore like they have done with every other game they have.

(Anonymous) 2019-03-24 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the game itself is a continuing series... it's like if you found out 76 is gay in episode 10 of a serial, not after the show is done then the author mentioned he had a boyfriend the whole time.

If that happened, I bet everyone's reaction would also be "where the fuck was that in canon, and why didn't you put it in the canon?" and I'd think they'd be right to ask that.

Dumbledore being revealed as gay in a short story or (le gasp) the movie he was just fucking in last year: A-OK, no problem, great to learn new facets of an established character
Dumbledore being revealed as gay in a tweet: Get the fuck outta here

One of these things is Actual Canon, one of these things is Word of God. Can you tell the difference?

Fortunately, Dumbledore wasn't revealed to be gay in a tweet. It came up in a Q&A session when a fan explicitly asked about his love life.

I like the attractions flow in Kingdom Hearts 3!

I also think Yen Sid was right not to make Sora a Keyblade Master in DDD, but that's apparently blasphemy in the fandom.

Re: What are some hard opinions you have about fandoms, you are NOT in?

I'm not sure on Yen Sid just because he's clearly a garbage teacher.

"Okay you didn't learn the right way because you had no teacher, so I'm going to dump you here so you learn... without a teacher."

"May your heart be your guiding key except for now when you're doing something I don't want you to do in your heart practically screaming for you to go after Aqua and tbh you're the person who saves her in the end anyway."

I believe that Riku was much more worthy than Sora.

I also believe that he would be a more interesting protagonist. I loved playing him in DDD.

Agreed on Nero, OP. Sadface. He used to be so cute, too.

FFXV, played the game but not in the fandom: Luna is a fucking garbage "character" and seeing people stanning her is honestly embarrassing. I know it's so they can make all the dudes fuck but have the veneer of BUT I LOVE THE LADIES!!!! so that they don't get in trouble with each other, but jesus. Literally every other woman in that game is better. Even the weird scientist lady who was barely around.

SPN: It should have ended years ago, it's been on life support since season 5. Also Dean and Cas are never going to kiss. The end.

I refuse to watch The Promised Neverland because what is wrong with their faces? They look perpetually off-model.

I used to get really annoyed when the "make this gay couple couple canon, it's important for representation" kept coming around for Supernatural, Sherlock, and Teen Wolf and others.
