I think liberals who get offended the moment anyone has an opinion that even slightly differs from their own are just as over the top as the hardcore conservatives they complain about.

(FTR, am a liberal. Most liberals I know are not like this. Some are, though. They piss me off.)

We have a real problem with extremism in our politics right now. "Centrist" is a bad word.

(FTR, I'm a left-leaning moderate and feel completely disenfranchised by the current state.)

Whether someone self-identifies as a centrist has no impact on whether they're wrong, though

Yep. And also liberals who accuse anyone with a slightly different opinion than their's of being an alt-righter or something comparable. You can be critical about certain topics without being an alt-right "ism"-spouting asshole. In fact, you should be.
