Sure, SOME people might find it attractive. I'm saying I don't think that's why MOST people do it.

And I'd say MOST people get piercings because they find it attractive and/or fun.

I think there's room for interpretation there... some people get them because they feel they're unconventional or cool or badass, but not necessarily 'attractive'

I wouldn't go so far as to say this is 'most' people, but there is a large group that does go intentionally for things they don't think are 'hot' because being unorthodox, or rebellious, or fitting a certain aesthetic is a status marker of its own

Like, people being intentionally 'unattractive' in 'weird' ways to be cool IS a thing, for reasons other than they personally find it hot

I think people weren't thinking about the distinction between 'cool or rebellious' and 'hot or attractive', or like physical attractiveness vs social markers

Like 'why would people be hideous on purpose' is a reasonable question! It's just there is also a reasonable answer: 'in some circles that's the coolest thing to do' :P
