Yes, I too recall the decline of the quality of fic in the Harry Potter fandom once the movies came out. Oh wait.

And that was a fandom where the vast majority of writers were quite young, relatively speaking, so I expect even greater amounts of amazing fic to be churned out once this show starts.

If y’all think an already popular book getting made into a great TV show is going to result in WORSE fic overall, I weep cause y’all been reading some shitty fic in your other fandoms :/

Of course there will be more bad fic. There’s also going to be a TON of good fic. Just...don’t read the crap maybe???

There really isn't going to be a ton of good fic. High school AUS?, coffee shop AUS, all the other utter bollocks sure. But good fic of the kind that already exists in the GO fandom? Unlikely.

Anyway, post-film HP isn't directly comparable. Most of the good fic in that fandom was written in the days when good writing, a love for the Canon and characters, and a sense of *fun* were still held in esteem as part of the fic writing process. Not the joyless soulless tick boxing exercise that fandom has become.

NAYRT but JFC you have issues.

A lot of fanfic is written because of love for characters but a disdain for canon in some form. AUs have always been a thing.
However do you mean fandom wants you to only write lesbian women or mention nonbinary people or something to show how "woke" you are instead of writing the fic you want to? Yes, that's joyless.

The fact you capitalise canon makes me nervous, tbh, like you're in the HP fandom and refer to yourself as 'Jo's Wo/man, Through and Through.'
