You can't write off all new fic-- a lot of people are coming back to the fandom or getting active as fanwriters either for the first time or for the first time since AO3 became a thing, because the excitement around the show has them re-reading the book and getting excited.

Like... I agree some people are going to get involved who have me wondering what the heck they saw that was so different from what I did, but that's not new, either. There's been bad fic before, too.

You just gotta take it on a case-by-case basis. (I'll admit, I'm avoiding any crossovers with certain other fandoms featuring angels and demons like the plague)

My old fic from back when I first wrote for the fandom is atrocious and I kind of hope it's been purged from LJ. I spent about a decade writing for other fandoms. The series finally happening has me back in the GO fandom as a much stronger writer than I was, with a name unconnected to the one I used back then. It would be easy to mistake me for a new fan if you didn't know me. So I'm trying to extend the same openness to other 'new' writers who may well be old fans.

There's going to be a flood of new fics to read, and they're not all going to be bad. Even if most of them aren't to my tastes or yours, the people getting excited to put out more fanworks that are good is something to be happy about.
