What we have here is a classic case of otaku.

Seriously, interacting with real people does wonders once in a while. And this is coming from a big-time geek with social anxiety. I mean, I don't want a boyfriend either... but not because I don't want fandom time taken away.

I like the Real World in small doses, but I'm not going to go out of my comfort zone to get a boyfriend that wouldn't understand the things I'm into. If I see someone I like, I'll know and THEN I'll start thinking about pursuing a relationship.

It's more like I don't want my fandom time taken away by going out to actively get a boyfriend by clubbing (which is the most pointless shit I've ever done in my life), only to have him bug me about going out.

shit sucks, really.

Is this the OP? I could have written that secret myself, seriously. I am completely selfish with my time and have resented the time dating takes away from fandom when I've tried it. I still think it's healthier than being in a relationship just for the sake of being in a relationship, which so many people do.

I could have written this secret too - maybe someday the perfect guy will come along who loves me for exactly who I am, without me having to be someone I'm not, and I'll actually love him back. Until then, there's no point in obsessing over it. Either it'll happen, or I'll die an old maid. An old fandom-obsessed maid.

I still think it's healthier than being in a relationship just for the sake of being in a relationship, which so many people do.

I agree so, so hard. And since I'm anon I can say this without worrying I sound like a condescending jackass: I look down on people who do that. People who constantly need to be in a relationship... it's like they're not even their own person - it's sad.
