It's not statutory rape in Japan. I believe legal age there is quite low, something like 12-13-14?

I think it's 16 if I'm not mistaken. Maybe the secret maker is just getting angry at people rushing to ship Edgeworth with a character no one knows anything about yet.

reCAPTCHA gave me "Swann Transport" which is ironic with all the Twilight sue-screaming that happens here.

They must have changed it; a few years ago an (ex) friend of mine who lived in Japan was going on and on about how she wanted to do Daniel Radcliffe, who was then in his mid-teens, and about how she could do it there, too. (Yeah, I know. EWWWWW. Fortunately this was not someone who was ever likely to MEET him.)

I just get annoyed by the assumption that sex under 18 = statutory rape EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD, and therefore there is something wrong with you if you do not think it is disgusting and evil. Mostly because I had sex long before 18 and so have most of the people I know, but in fact, this isn't even true everywhere in the USA. You had to be under 16 to be statutory rapeable where I grew up and to the best of my knowledge that law has not changed.

(I am also annoyed by the fact that people throw the word "paedophilia" around with no reference to its actual meaning, which is a mental disorder where you are only or primarily attracted to pre-pubescent children, and is not actually an applicable term for people who are attracted to teenagers, people who are attracted to one teenager but not usually attracted to teenagers, or molesters who abuse young children because it's easy, not because that's their preference.)

I don't know why I care so much. Everyone I slept with has ALWAYS been above legal age, even when I wasn't, LOL.

Statutory rape is a bullshit charge anyway. Like I was really mentally/psychologically more mature at 18 rather than 17. If anything I was more sane at 17 because bipolar started manifesting itself around the time I started college. Adolescence is a total societal construct. "Teenagers" didn't even really exist before WWII, you were a child and then you went through puberty and became an adult. It wasn't until society started prolonging childhood that this shit became an issue.

I agree with you that sometimes teenagers are more mature than adults. When I was 17 I was much more mature than my 26 year old boyfriend--when we broke up, I wasn't the one drunk dialing and mooning around like the world had ended. (And in fact we might not have broken up if he hadn't decided that we must OMG get married and not been interested in my perfectly reasonable insistence that it not happen before I finished college and that I was not necessarily having 6 children just because he liked being in a large family.)

I'm just kind of amused at the OP's conflation of a legal issue (statutory rape, not the same everywhere in the world, trufax) with a moral one (yes, Virginia, there ARE people who are too young to have sex with anyone--but most of them are significantely younger than 17, though I would argue that some people never grow up enough, and that doesn't seem to stop them).

By national law, it's thirteen. Prefectural law supersedes that, though, and some prefects have higher ages of consent than others -- the age of consent in Tokyo is seventeen, I know.

It isn't in the UK eithewr where the legal age is 16. Some people need to learn that the USA does not equal the world.

In fact it is anywhere from 14-16 in various other parts of the USA that are not where the OP is obviously living. (I have heard that it is 14 in Louisiana. Most places it is 16 or 18.) People in the USA also need to remember that it is called the "United States" of America for a reason and that different states have different laws! I remember very well going to uni at 15 in West Virginia, where the law is 16. Suddenly after my 16th birthday, 18+ year old classmates were willing to date me.

Hmmm...wonder why? :)
