"Not if I saw it lying on the side of the road" is something he says in the books, or close enough to. Before he even knows it's the One Ring, he guesses that Frodo has something important but deadly that Boromir tried to take from him, and tells Frodo that he would not take this thing, even if he saw it lying on the side of the road. Later, when he finds out what it is, he realises why Boromir was so tempted, but then reassures Frodo, saying that he is not his brother, that he meant what he said and stands by it, gives Frodo and Same some provisions and lets them go their way. Faramir's actions there make me understand why Pippin practically loves him on sight.

Ok, thanks for clarifying. I've only read the books once so the line of dialogue wasn't familiar. Now that you recapped it, I remember it now. :)
