See, I don't mind Raegar and Lyanna being together. It is just the marriage part I mind. It would flip Robert's Rebellion just as much if they got together in secret and yet Raegar's marriage was never annulled. Jon's still a Targaryen, just an illegitimate one. Keeps Dany as the Targaryen heir. Serves the story better (in my opinion).

I think it makes a difference for Lyanna, though, that Rhaegar didn't want her to be his mistress, he wanted her to be his wife. And was actually willing to follow through on it, not just say the words, however much of an absolutely stupid thing to do it was politically. Without the marriage, I think Jon and everyone else would have still had to wonder if it was, maybe not rape, but something more sordid than it was. With the marriage, their story really does become a tragedy of love and honest intentions and mindboggling idiocy. I think I like it better. The whole death-by-love-and-honour thing is very in keeping with Jon's story, and the Starks in general, and this way he gets it coming and going, from both sides. It suits.

Though I do agree, I don't like what it does to his and Dany's positions for the throne. I liked Jon as the King in the North, willingly chosen, despite his bastardy. I liked the element of choice and worth that had. That he'd won a throne because he'd worked for it, like Dany did in Meereen. The true heir curveball is not one I appreciate. So, yeah. Like I said, I'm so-so on it. I like what it does to Rhaegar and Lyanna, and somewhat what it does for Jon's history. I don't like so much what it does to Jon and Dany now.
