Crocheting

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2019-04-06 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Does anyone here crochet? I just finished my first project. It is a pretty ugly scarf but I think I got the single crochet stitch down. Does anyone have an recommendations for a new project that will teach me a different stitch? Or even an amigurumi project to help me practice stitches?

I am not! I just started like a month ago so have not explored a lot. Let me join it now.

It's got an absolute flip load of projects on. :) Sorry I can't offer you specific advice, I haven't crafted in years. Hope it's of use to you.

Well done on your first project! Sounds like moving up to double crochet would suit you well.

Here's a link to some scarf patterns, some of which look pretty easy:

(The great thing about fibre arts is, if you mess up, you can just unravel and start over, so have fun and experiment :-) )

If you want something more ambitious, the Ana Lucia shawl is super pretty, and a lot easier than it looks:

(Has singles, doubles, chains, and front and back posts *which are very easy I swear*)

Some of those scarves look really nice! I feel like I should practice all those techniques before I try to make that beautiful shawl. D:

I recommend granny squares (youtube it). They're small, and there are a thousand different kinds of all difficulties. If you want to play around and learn new techniques, they're a great way to start. You can join them to make a blanket or another scarf.

I have heard of those! Let me look some up. That sounds like a good way to practice a bunch of different things.

If you want to do amigurumi, I'd suggest looking up the magic circle technique, and a tutorial for crocheting a simple ball - if you have some yarn left over from your scarf, you can make a couple practice balls to help you get the hang of both the continuous round and how to increase and decrease smoothly. There are an abundance of tutorials on YouTube, so if you search around a bit, you should be able to find one that works for you.

If you're moving into new stitches, make sure you pay attention to whether your pattern's US or UK. I'd recommend printing out or bookmarking the terminology differences, because there's enough overlap that it's easy to get tripped up if you're not paying close attention.

I am VERY interested in amigurumi and I do have leftover yard. I will look for those tutorials ASAP.
