If you want to do amigurumi, I'd suggest looking up the magic circle technique, and a tutorial for crocheting a simple ball - if you have some yarn left over from your scarf, you can make a couple practice balls to help you get the hang of both the continuous round and how to increase and decrease smoothly. There are an abundance of tutorials on YouTube, so if you search around a bit, you should be able to find one that works for you.

If you're moving into new stitches, make sure you pay attention to whether your pattern's US or UK. I'd recommend printing out or bookmarking the terminology differences, because there's enough overlap that it's easy to get tripped up if you're not paying close attention.

I am VERY interested in amigurumi and I do have leftover yard. I will look for those tutorials ASAP.
