I don't think you're 100 percent right, but I think it's telling that I once heard a man say the same thing about men written by women, except it wasn't just about sex but about everything relationships involve. He said it's unrealistic to write men who share their feelings and are loving. Real men aren't like that, you silly women!

Yeah, but how many women would also say "a real woman would never ____?" when it's something plenty of women do?

All it's really telling of is that gender stereotypes abound in-group too.

That says a lot about that guy tbh. But also lol, like some dude's opinion matters to anyone writing romance and smutfic. It's not like men always write realistic women, either.

'A man' doesn't speak for all men though, especially one that is being critical about media he doesn't personally enjoy. There are plenty of men who wish to share their feelings and are loving. Source: have had multiple relationships with openly emotional and caring men.

That's really sad. That also gets me thinking about a weird LJ post I read years ago where a man ranted about slash writing and men not really being like that. It came off misogynistic and self-hating in turns. It was weird and uncomfortable to read because it seemed to come from a traumatized place.

My guy is super affectionate and we discuss feelings and he's still no less masculine. I'm sure he's not a magical unicorn man that I fantasized into existence.
