Blood types

Anybody out there have a clue? My mom and sis are O+, I'm A-, my littler brother is A+. So my dad has to be...what? It's so fucking confusing.

Your mom is OO (Type O)
Your dad is AO (Type A)

That seems to say that my mom bring O+ and my dad being A that we would all be A, but my sister is O+ so.....

Confuuuuuuuuuused.

Nah, it's like:

Your mom being OO means she can give either an O or an O to each child.
Your dad being AO means he can give either an A or an O to each child.

The non-O one is always dominant, so you and your brother are both AO (type A), your sister is OO (type O).

Maybe this chart is better? Go to "Blood Inheritance" and scroll down https://www.bswhealth.com/patient-tools/blood-center/Pages/blood-type-genetics-and-compatibility.aspx

Oh, yes, that is, thank you.
And it has some Rh info, too, interesting! I'm Rh positive.

Good stuff! :D

Okay, so, my dad and I are both O- and my mom and my sister are both A+. How does that work then if A is always dominant?

Your dad: OO
Your mom: AO

You: O from dad, O from mom = OO = O
Sister: O from dad, A from mom = AO = A

I think your dad would have to be A-? Otherwise where are you getting your minus or your brother getting his A?

Could be A+ too; genotype A+/- translate to phenotype A+ but can transmit -

How does one find out their blood type in the first place? I doubt either of my parents know theirs.

Assuming it’s not in your medical records, which it should be, if you ever donate blood they’ll type you.

Well, I know mine because i had a kid, and they test your blood to see if you have the Rh factor when you're pregnant (you need a shot if you do).

Other people know from donating, from military service, if they've had surgery..... If you want to know yours, if you can, just donate blood, they'll tell you after what your type is.

I'm A+ but I only know because I tested my own blood in a college biology class.

I am AB+, both my sisters are AB-. My mother is OB+ (but must also carry the negative based on us), yet managed to pass on the B all three times! I think my dad is A+ (possibly A-), but we don't know if he is AA or AO.

It's always been a little confusing to me.
