Except JK's entire point is love wins them all, so it's perfectly in line with her perspective, whether you like it or not.

I actually think there were ways to write it where, for example, his friendship with Lily slowly changes his perspective and made him a better person. That isn't what she wrote, though. She could have made it work, and she didn't, at least not for me. I'm fine with love equals redemption stories when they work. This one didn't.
