I love these two movies but agreed, even when I was watching it at the time it came off as clunky and out-of-place and didn't really matter all that much anyway? It felt like the movie just wanted to up Rick and Evie's already wonderful relationship even more into 'destined lovers' when they really didn't need it imo.

The fact that I forget it's even a thing tells you how forgettable the concept is, lol.
