Same, OP. He was horrified to be married to someone without even remembering it, pissed that she'd been basically handed off to without either of them consenting, and angry that his crew found it amusing. He even told her to not take shit from other people, that she had a right to a job, her own place in the world, her own choices, etc.

He really was the good guy.
