Every video game in history (that doesn't already have one) would be improved with a romance / dating simulator / dating subgame element

that's right, every single one

ugh no. opposite.

(Anonymous) 2019-04-14 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
nah that would ruin the games

AGREE

I was just thinking this on my playthrough of Breath of the Wild. How stupidly fun would it have been to (optionally!) romance a character? Maybe you're a straight-shooter for canon and you stay on the Zelda path, maybe you wanna take the INCREDIBLY CUTE Paya out on a date and fawn over how flustered she gets, maybe you wanna ride a shark prince like you stole him. It would have been so fun!!

Just think about a FFXV where your Noctis can choose to romance any of the guys, Lunafreya, Aranea, or Gladio's little sister. Maybe you can even have a one night stand with Ardyn?

I think that'd work pretty well and not drastically change the story.

(That way I'd have gotten to make sweet sweet love to Ignis before Altissia)

To this day I'm upset that there was no "make sweet, emotionally intense love to Prompto in the safe room of Zegnautus Keep" minigame.

While Prompto is not my type, I get you. Poor thing. He almost broke my heart.

Then again I was literally traumatised by this part of the game. Especially since I don't like being "alone" and jump scares get me every time. And I was really worried about Ignis - I was legit worried he wouldn't make it.

And I wish we could have gotten at least a kiss after Noctis comes back. Or before we say goodbye for the last time.

... you know what, I think I might actually be inclined to agree. I could see numerous games benefiting from it, if handled well. The option to interact directly with characters on a personal level and have your choices affect their dialogue is always appreciated. While I might not personally try to woo a lot of these characters, having the option to do so is always amusing.

Agreed, I always wanted to date the Duck Hunt dog.

You jest, but imagine having a cute 8-bit partner to help up your shooting game. Maybe they'd have a dog too!

(Anonymous) 2019-04-14 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Those ducks though

Actually I remember thinking there might be something between Jensen and Pritchard in Deus Ex. I wish you could have done something about it.

My dream ever since I played KH1 was to romance Riku as Sora, so I guess I have to agree with you.

I'm trying to think about a game I played where that wouldn't work but I can't think of one. Spec Ops, maybe?

I wouldn't be against this as long as it's optional and not mandatory for plot.

And as long as the characters in question aren't like ten year olds or something.

I'm intrigued but as a Silent Hill fan I'm thinking "no."

Pyramid Head, though.

Even Tetris?

The long straight block and the L-shaped block should make out

(Anonymous) 2019-04-14 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Especially Tetris.
