yay or nay?

Re: Superheroes

(Anonymous) 2019-04-14 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Used to be yay, but enough's enough. Magical girls or bust.

Re: Superheroes

(Anonymous) 2019-04-14 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Nay. They're boring.

Re: Superheroes

(Anonymous) 2019-04-14 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
They're fine

that's my official opinion

Re: Superheroes

Still yay, just... less yay? A less enthusiastic yay? I'm getting pretty bored of them, if I'm gonna be honest. Maybe we can go back to singing cowboys for a few years, give ourselves a breather.

Not my bag generally. Batman's the only one I have a soft spot for. Gimme all the Batman.

Just started shipping my first ever superhero pairing, so I'm currently feeling very, very 'Yay' about the MCU. It's even made me love all the other characters a lot more than I did before.

I'm not sick to death of them because I don't really hit up every superhero media out there, but it'd be nice to see some more variety in movies.

99% nay. Tiger & Bunny is my only exception.

I have never found them interesting, even when I was a kid. I'm a bad nerd.

Yay, but please stop with the 'i'll do the right thing even when it is stupid and fucks up pretty much everything' 'good' guys and 'kill everyone, i hate everyone, someone stole my Lisa Frank binder when i was 10 so i'm gonna BURN THE WORLD!!' villains. Please.

+ ten bajillion

(with maybe an exception for that kind of villain...when they're well done, the comedic value is extraordinary)

Re: Superheroes

(Anonymous) 2019-04-14 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
nayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Good vs. evil bores me to tears.

Exception being X-Men because they're not really using superpowers as much as learning to cope (or not) with what are basically curses, and that's so relatable and heartbreaking and uplifting. And also the creators are not afraid to make the Big Bad a sympathetic human being and the lead protagonist a deeply flawed person.

Yay. Absolutely yay. As a general rule, characters with powers are my favorite trope. Could be magic, could be superpower, don't care. I just like the existence of powers in my fantasy.

Yay, definitely the best track on Discovery.

Re: Superheroes

(Anonymous) 2019-04-15 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yay, but I'm choosey, so not a universal yay. I find I'm not so much fatigued with superheroes as rather the abundance of choice means I can afford to be picky. I used to see pretty much every superhero movie that came out. X-Men? Only vaguely aware that's a thing, but let's go see it! Iron Man? Never heard of him but looks like fun! Now, I don't have to settle for whatever I can get, I can go to superhero movies that specifically tickle my interest.

I like the MCU generally, but I have not seen all the movies, did not seen all the ones I've seen in proper order, and did not see all the ones that some of the others build off of first (e.g. I did not see Civil War or Black Panther before Endgame and still haven't gotten around to seeing BP) and this has not detracted from my enjoyment at all. I either get what I need to know from fandom osmosis or I can just figure things out from context. I'm a DC girl at heart, but had no interest in Man of Steel or BvS because they just didn't look intriguing to me, despite my love of Batman (although I did watch them on cable later). It's not enough for a movie to have a superhero, it's got to spark my interest on some level beyond that.

When I was younger, I was like "yaaaay superheroes" until 2012. But then after 2012, superhero films were either boring and formulaic (and the fandom was everywhere), or tried something different but fell flat on the execution (probably due to executive meddling). So I became "naaay superheroes" for a while.

Now I'm like yaaaay superheroes again. Maybe because I lowered my expectations. Maybe because superhero films got better in the past three years. By better, I mean the people working behind those films had more creative freedom and fun.

Used to be yay, but the MCU drove that yay so far into the ground it's shot out past nay and well into "fuck off" territory. I just wish it wasn't so goddamned ubiquitous. You can't escape this shit.

NAY.
