Luther is not my fave but I agree he is a tragic figure - he has so deeply bought into the lie of him being Number 1 - and that being Number 1 meant he was the most powerful, smartest, most loved - that he can’t see that it was all a lie. He’s a classic golden child who hasn’t accepted that they were abused yet.

He still fucks it up so hard by the end I can’t like him though.

This.

I feel bad for all of the kids, Luther included. Their lives SUCKED. But that doesn't mean projecting and taking it out on each other is okay--it wasn't okay for Allison to snap at Vanya at the beginning, or for Luther to choke out and imprison Vanya, or for Vanya to destroy absolutely everything. There are personal psychological reasons for all of the above, but they were still shitty actions.

Exactly. I find him incredibly sympathetic specifically BECAUSE he has so completely bought into the lies that he was fed. Yes, he fucks things up, but it's easy to connect point A to point B and understand exactly how and why his thought processes got him to that point.
