I don't mind people being sad about it. I was sad too!

I DO mind that my country's government feel the need to donate when yes, we have Flint and yes, Black Churches burned and yes, Puerto Rico needs help.

I mean.......I'm pretty sure the Catholic church has the money to repair it. They were doing that when the fire broke out.

yeah this is me. I'm actually not sad, but I was okay to live and let live until governments started handing over money to rebuild a church in another country. when we're already arguing about how many beneficial programs will be cut to fund the fucking shittyass wall.

let the church fund it. let France's elite help if they want to fund it for artistic or historical or touristic reasons. but if we're not also giving money to Brazil and Japan and other countries to help rebuild their national treasures destroyed in disasters, then fuck me sideways.

You mean flint which no longer has any of the residents threatened by any further harm from the piping, or Purto Rico where aid is being left to rot on landing pads.

Seems if you actually cared about those things instead of virtue signalling about how woke you are you'd be aware of those little facts?

Funny how you want to play "hur dur I hate social justice but I have no links to share." and coincidentally had nothing to say about the black churches.

Frankly, you're nothing but a contrarian pain in the ass and this was a better community when you weren't here, and I wish my ban of you from my journal actually went to you not being able to reply to me in any capacity.

I didn't feel the need for links, given what I said was objectively true, and the links posted by you don't do anything to undermine what I said. Yes major infrastructure projects take time (which I why all the piping has yet to be replaced), and your links didn't touch on the ineffective nature of the distribution of aid provided to Puerto Rico on a local level. Which whether it's a measly ten billion, or the forty plus billion to come is irrelevant if it's not being effectively used.

And the question of the black churches doesn't really dignify an answer. The government has investigated and successfully prosecuted the assailant, and the churches should be suitably covered, or are covered by the local community. What the churches are not, are priceless international treasures three times older than your entire country.

You're also falling into the trap of claiming that no money can be donated internationally until every single problem in the US has been solved. Which means, you are saying that no money should ever be given internationally because that will not happen.

p.s. It's okay, I neither have the slightest interest in posting on your journal or will remember your name long enough to be bothered to post on it sunshine.

I think the role of foreign governments re: Notre Dame should be to donate things like part of a stained-glass window or a gargoyle or something - a token gift that is material and visible and can have a little plaque under it, e.g. "A gift to the people of France from the people of [country]" - while the main restoration funding should come from private/corporate donations, the Catholic church, and the French government and city of Paris. Since there are already hundreds of millions of Euros pledged by French billionaires and corporations, I think this will work out fine without the US or any other foreign governments making large monetary donations.

(Individuals around the world can donate as they please - that's not anyone else's business regardless of what other problems are happening and how much people try to shame others on social media.)
