It isn't grammatically correct but where I am from it is pretty much accepted that 'hunny and hun' are terms of endearment and would be spelled that way if writing to the person they are aimed at. 'hon' is rather jarring here and would be pronounced the way it looks. I can understand why it would irritate if not a person's thing.
