that sure hasn't been the case in my experiences in fandom. when someone is writing fic where the characters behave wildly ooc and it's not deliberate - that is, they don't realize the characters are behaving unlike canon because they actually have a distorted view of the characters' personalities and believe they're totally writing them ic - they already hold that view of the character. So everything they say about the character, from jokes to angry call-outs of people who dare criticize their precious cinnamon roll, is flavored by their ooc view. and yes, that includes meta. especially meta.

contrast that to people who know they're writing the characters a bit ooc and don't give a fuck. those folks are pretty mellow and their meta might be a bit more balanced and self-aware.

My grandmother did a lot of genealogy research back in the day, before ancestry.com was a thing. I should find out which aunt has that stuff and see if I can get copies. Anyway, apooarently there's a murderer back in the family tree somewhere.

Scar on my elbow where I fell down the cement steps at the front of one of the houses we lived in in the Philippines.

Big scar on my forhead. The week of my high school graduation. We had a party. I was in a dress that was too long. Took off my heels when I got home. Tripped on the steps in our house and rammed my glasses into my face. 30 stitches.

Me neither, but I still think it'd be interesting. I can't be 100% certain my ancestry is one ethnicity and I think it's likely to be a mix.

Dammit, yet another of my hens is having issues; I was at the doctor’s and running errands and stuff all day, and when I went to put them away, one was perched roosting with the rest, but the area around her cloaca was super distended and yellowish and of course the vet’s already closed.

I hope she makes it until tomorrow and the vet can help, but it looks terrible. I don’t know if it’s worth it to give her a soak, sometimes that helps clear stuff out, but she’s not super used to being handled and it might scare her to death. :-(

Dammit, today was already really hard.

Maybe the whole thing will just be awkward vitamin commercials.

Good, ripe fruit that's in season. Cashews. Pistachios. Mini wrapped chocolates like Dove or those milk chocolate stars.

Is it about cracking a cold one

(Anonymous) 2019-04-19 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't that every GOT pairing though?

Except the twincest. What with the being born on the same day and all.

I've considered putting myself on the database that can link you to relatives because I know that I probably have half siblings or might get linked to my bio father (donor). I don't know much about it though.

Has anyone else done that?

(Anonymous) 2019-04-19 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah Hiddleston narrating the stories would be terrible and disappointing to fans.
I seriously doubt they'd do that, considering the emphasis they've placed on him 'starring' in the series, and Hiddleston himself talking about it.

uncanny valley, imo

Lol I agree!

Can you (non-snarkily) explain the connection between genealogy kits and being white? I don't know much about them except that one of my white friends got herself tested with one, but the ads for them don't just feature white people?

Re: genealogy

(Anonymous) 2019-04-19 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
My guess would be that non-white people (in the United States at least) are a lot more likely to have a fairly good idea of their ethnic origin already?

Re: What scars do you have?

(Anonymous) 2019-04-19 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
I've got a bunch, but most of them aren't noticeable.
A small pock mark above my eyebrow from chicken poxs.
Tiny one above my upper lip from where my dog bit me
A fairly bad burn where my thumb connects to my wrist from an unfortunate cooking accident.
One of the worst of the scars on my hand/fingers are from when I was passing a giant garbage pail full of mud/rotten plant clippings over our back gate to my mother. It didn't have a lid so while I was strong arming it over all the gunk stated to fall out, so my stupid ass brain thought it was a good idea to let go of one of the handles to keep it all from pouring out on me. Basically I was very lucky not to impale my hand on the metal gate, and that my mom was nearby to lift the thing off the finials because my hand was pinned there...
I have dozens others on my hands/arms from when I worked as a metal fabricator, and dozen others from I have no idea from where.
I skinned my knee very badly once, that one's pretty bad.
And a burn on my big toe from one of those freezing treatments from my dermatologist.

my grandmother did it all the way back to the late middle ages. I have a copy of it somewhere. nothing very unusual or exciting though, no pirates or princesses or people who helped slaves escape or anything.

Watched Annihilation w/roomie today (I'd seen it before, he hadn't) hung out at a mall, did a little shopping, drank cinnamon tea, read, had fish tacos for dinner and saw a filmed version of Live Rifftrax w/ a friend (it was hilarious!)

Lots of them but the two most obvious ones are on my stomach from surgery. I had my tubes tied, my appendix out, an ovary removed because there was a tumor (non-cancerous, thank fuck) the size of a melon on it and a hysterectomy. I also have some on my back due to a skin infection I had several years ago.

Pickled carrots, cheese and crackers, most fruit if it’s ripe, flatbread and tahini garlic sauce, Trader Joe’s totally irredeemably junky taki knockoffs.
