You obviously don't need anything top of the line, the site can help you decide on what you need, and tell you what does what in the FAQs. (I'd start with finding your computers stats/score and go from there)
The brands I tend to lean towards are Asus, and HP. I have a personal grudge against Acer, so don't buy from them. It's been like over a year since I've searched for anything, and my sister did most of the work, but my hoarding ways means I have my sisters laptop box on hand, and I think it might be a good match/start on where to look for a (imo, well-) above average laptop under $2,000 CAD.

^ will let you know how well your computer should be able to process any given game/program. (I think it's the site I used) It's also a good way to measure just how much processing speed you might need.
