Haven't seen the documentary, but I'd say that people don't want to believe it because they like his music. They bought into the public persona and/or admired him, and don't want to lose that idealized image they have of him.

But yeah, I think he was a pedophile, and I've thought that since before the trials in the 90s. There was a lot of gossip back then about it, and even he admitted that he slept in the same bed as the children. He just got away with it because he was rich and famous.
